Planning a road trip that includes a "stop" at Muscle Shoals.  I have been there several times but never tried to stop.

Also, would like to stop by the Fame Recording Studio.

Any comments, things I should do, not do, what to expect?

Can you actually visit inside?

F.A.M.E, that was run by Rick Hall, is not to be missed because of his vision to bring artists from all music genres to be put down on vinyl for we who loved the music.  His passion and life story is incredible; a force of nature through sound and music engineering.

However, just driving a few blocks up the road brings you to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio where some of the greats also recorded.  It's history is legendary from it's inception to the museum that it is today.
The guides are remarkable in their delivery of it's story and the people who made it a temple of sound.
The vibes that I got when moving throughout it's walls told me that the spirits of those who performed there are still present.  It is a shrine in my eyes (and ears) to the times, the people, and the place where it was about the music and not solely about the money.  The Swampers are legendary as the house musicians who backed up the greatest artists of the 60's, 70's and 80's that crossed the thresholds of both places.

Go and experience them both. cooldude
We did both tours in one morning.  The stories are incredible.

Other than the recording studios not a whole lot in the shoals. Tuscumbia (you really don’t know when you leave one and enter the other) has the Helen Keller House/ Museum. I live 45 minutes from there and  never been so I cant say what it is or isnt.

We watched something like this on Amazon.  Not sure it was "a documentary" but it was close.

The Rattlesnake Saloon is there which is kinda cool.

Also, if you are going to stay overnight in the area, there is a place that has converted grain silos into “cabins”.  I don’t recall the name, but it is very near the Rattlesnake Saloon. I was there about 6 or 7 years ago, but if my memory serves me correctly, they are less than a mile apart. The silo I stayed in had a nice bed in the main area.  You could go up a winding stairway where there were two rooms with several sets of bunk beds. Anyway, it was “different” which I thought was cool.

Ride safe and enjoy!

Thanks Janice, I shall look into that.

I had planned on continuing on for another 75 miles or so.  We shall see.

Looks like the lodging is called Seven Springs Lodge.  The saloon is only open a few days a week....

Having been there the Helen K home is a small but interesting visit, and very enlightening.

Another thing in the area - Huntsville   - the Space Exhibit.

South of Muscle Shoals is the Alabama Natural Bridge Nature area.

Just south off of US72 is the Alabama Coon Dog Cemetery close to Muscle Shoals.

Joe Wheeler State Park was a nice place to stay.

Town Creek area has always been a speed trap, so watch it.

From Muscle Shoals you are a short distance from the Natchez Trace and some interesting sites.

Alabama 24 the 4 lane divided highway to and from no where just south of Muscle Shoals.

Red Bay Alabama motor home capital just southwest of Muscle Shoals.

Tishomingo Mississippi State Park, very rustic cabins, just southwest down the Trace. But quiet and peaceful.

As for the Quad Cities quiet and friendly folks not much going on ever.

If I knew your route could recommend other sites as I am very familiar with the area, having traveled it for 65+ years.

Have fun.
