AAA American Automobile Association. Anyone here a member? Good Bad Indifferent? If I have it on my cage does it cover me while on Phatt Ghurl? Reading the paper work they sent me on paper sounds like a whiz bang deal. Course we recently had a dissertation on car repair insurance. And as Always T I A fer Any and All input. RIDE SAFE.

I've got roadside coverage on all my cars and bikes with triple A. I've used it several times on different bikes and it was fine. I've also had roadside (including towing) with other companies and AAA compares well with those.
BTW I wouldn't want to take long trips without roadside assistance on whatever vehicle I was driving. You've reminded me I gave to add the RustyValkyrie to my account before the weekend.

I have been a member of AAA for over 20 years (well I think it was that long maybe longer).
I have what is called the AAA Plus RV. As such it covers my cars and motorcycles. If I am not mistaken, the plan lists a tow of 100 miles but I think the fine print suggests that if you are more than 100 miles from a identified location of repair, they will tow to the nearest location.
Its hard to find out stuff since I have had it for so long and even trying to look at the website is sort of a pain in the arse.
It coves me and my wife.

Good for tows and dead batteries, regular membership includes tow but anything over 5 miles you pay mileage. The executive one covers 100 miles and is not that much more expensive. All around a good deal. If you have a dead battery they will come and replace it for you. Sometimes you may wait awhile for a tow also but at least they come.

I'd think the most important thing is having a tow truck get to where you are quickly, even if you end up paying more. I remember years ago at a Colorado Inzane one of the attendees needed help on the plains east of Denver. He called his roadside service and waited something like 5 hours for help to arrive late at night. Apparently his service contracted with a towing company from miles away. I'd rather pay more to get some nearby help.

Ditto - to cover your Motorcycle, you need the Plus RV as well as your car / truck coverage. Tows for up to 100 miles (including on the Bike), more if you have the premium membership. Has been useful more than once since we got it. Used it to tow MY Phatt gurl home from the accident last November, have had a few battery jumps as well..

Silly question I could google on but am feeling lazier than usual: If I carry roadside assistance/tow coverage on my regular vehicular insurance, is there any advantage AAA has over this?

that was what I was thinking I have roadside assistance for 5 bucks per vehicle every 6 months only on ONE vehicle though. I wonder if there is a limit though of under 100 bucks with our insurance company, not sure? Should have put it on my OTHER HYUNDAI though, arghhh!

Well when I'm fairly local-within 30 miles of home-I Know a couple of good tow outfits near me that are reasonable. Say I break down 100 miles from B F E. Now WHAT? As others have stated at least with AAA they take care of you and yours. Thinkin about the top tier membership. One tow or jump-paid for! Specially with tow rates these days. I have roadside assistance on the cage policy BUT I have to find the "assistance"! Couple years ago my A M A membership cut the towing from 100 miles to 50 miles. What the hay-it's Only money! RIDE SAFE.

I need to dig into my policy with USAA and see just how far they'll tow us... Ironically, we had to use their services Sunday, Kali's car left her stranded in a very VERY bad place... She was in the left lane, managed to coast over to, here... USAA towed it to our local shop we like, turns out the timing belt broke. But not sure what they'd done if she was in BFE... Need to dig in and find that out. Edit - Googled it.... USAA is "Nearest appropriate repair facility". If that's 10 miles, cool. If it's 200 that's cool too... Not optimal but I can live with that.

What the hay-it's Only money!
Carolyn has a policy with some horse-oriented company. When you break down while pulling a trailer with horses in it, it could be a big deal. They don't just show up and get your vehicle towed somewhere, they take care of the horses too. Policy holders are covered if they're just in their car, no horses. She's used it several times, with horses and just with her car. I think the towers they use like it too... I showed up at the shop she got towed to once, she and the tower got there about the same time as I did. I was asking him how it worked for him to get paid, he had his cell phone out, beeped a couple of buttons, smiled, and said, "I'm paid"...
There's another thread on here about car warranty insurance. I think service providers probably just want to get paid promptly after providing a service, not juggle insurance papers and argue with adjusters.

Have you tried them lately? I have discontinued my support of AMA due to their inaptitude. Had a flat on the Valkyrie on a Saturday last August. About 100 miles from home. Called AMA. They said it would take a while - maybe 2 hours, being Saturday afternoon. I said OK, I'll wait, no other choice, but please tell the tow service it is somewhat urgent, I was stuck on the shoulder of a blind curve and was getting zoomed by traffic. In the meantime, I turned down a half dozen offers for assistance from a nice lady that lives nearby, a group of bikers, a guy with a trailer... " Thank you very much, everyone, I'm waiting for the AMA to show up - they're on the way!" AMA NEVER showed! When I finally got back a hold of the AMA dispatcher, he said there HAD BEEN a tow dispatched, but he (the phone operator) called them off because " It would take too long and it was an emergency". He decided it would be much better to leave me stranded all night than have me wait 2 hours, which I did anyway. Thanks a lot, AMA!. Like clockwork, I started getting letters. emails, and phone calls to renew my membership. After many discussions about their sorry lack of service and my refusal to send them additional money, they told me they would reimburse me for towing if I provided receipts (no receipts exist, I was bailed out by friends - it was a LONG day). AMA can bite me.

I had AMA and HOG roadside assistance over the years and both managed to piss me off to the extent that I'm now with AAA for my bikes.
One thing is with AAA if I'm on a bike I'm covered. I just confirmed this yesterday when I asked about getting the RusytValkyrie covered and was told if I'm riding it I'm covered.
