Apparently cicadas are finishing their underground nap and will be rising to splat on windshields from Tennessee to Georgia to North Carolina. Be careful out there  Shocked Angry tickedoff

Oh to be a cicada, what bliss it must be to sleep for 17 years, wake up, crawl up in a tree and scream.

Burlington Iowa where I grew up they had to remove them with payloaders and dump trucks and it reeked.

This must be some sort of conspiracy - those noisy bugs were out in force all the way to and from Asheville InZane 2018.

Does 17 cicadas years equal 3 human bean years?  coolsmiley

Speaking of these squawking tree bugs reminded me.

At the Morgantown Inzane, I was riding with a guy or three, and one of them told me he thought his bike was making a funny noise, could I listen.  I did and couldn't hear anything.  So we all shut down, and then we all heard the tree bugs.

I think that's what you've been hearing.

I think you're right.

I haven't heard any yet, but I've got holes all over my property.

The funny thing is, when they really get going, they get all synched up, just like riding with a bunch of Valks with chopped exhaust and cobras.  First time I was riding with a bunch of those, I thought something was wrong with my bike.  Grin

(oo-ahh, ooo-ahhh, Wawawawa)  ha ha it's easier to say than write

Here's another question.  How does someone decide their life's calling is to be an entomologist? (bug doctor)   Now A gynecologist, I can understand.

I think I’d much prefer to be a bug doctor than a vaginaologist.  Smiley

Looks like it'll be a bumper crop of the little critters this year...

Sifting through a shovel load of dirt in a suburban backyard, Michael Raupp and Paula Shrewsbury find their quarry: a cicada nymph.

And then another. And another. And four more.

In maybe a third of a square foot of dirt, the University of Maryland entomologists find at least seven cicadas -- a rate just shy of a million per acre. A nearby yard yielded a rate closer to 1.5 million.

Six weeks later the tiny nymphs are going to tumble 80 feet from the treetops, bounce twice, burrow down into the soil, go back underground for another 17 years."

This reminds me of my sex life (without the trees).   Grin

I've found that below 45 mph, they bounce off the windshield with a thump.  Above about 45 mph, it looks like you hit a tomato.
