Seems like it would give better traction and thus better control. Curious minds, etc.

Lots of trike conversions use a bike rear tire on the front. They mount it in reverse because the heavy loading is when under heavy braking.

I think even with the rake kit, a squarer tire on front would not be smooth handling.
The stock 150 front (with good tread) is no slouch.
Also, the CT in back of a heavy bike has a good deal of weight on it, assisting all season sidewalls to flex quite a bit. But there's not much weight on a front tire, and probably not much sidewall flex for a CT up front. So not smooth handling. And maybe fighting the bars more than you might like. I'm used to CTs in back grabbing ruts and hopping around a bit. I don't know if I'd like that up front.
Although when you look back to pictures of (really) old bikes, they all looked CT-like, fronts and rears.

Hmm...now you have me thinking, a dangerous thing for me these days. Guess I'll go looking for a stock size rear tire for the front which I believe the front on these bikes is 150/80r17. Jess...when I was a kid, CT's were about the only thing available for us. We'd go scrounging at the city dump and find something that looked like it would fit, then go home and see if we guessed right.

Only trouble is finding one that will work. You can buy the temporary tires that they mount on the spare rims, but only good for 81 mph. Don't know how well they would hold up. Like yourself I would love to try one. I think it would do fine up front. Let me know if you find one that will work. David (Warlock)

As far as a real bike tire rear on the front, don't a number of guys use a bias Dunlop of some kind?
D 40something? (deep rear tread)

My front tire on my trike is a Michelin Pilot Road 2 rear tire 150/70/zr17. This tire is no longer made and was replaced with Michelin Pilot Road 4. This tire has deep tread sipes for water disbursement and I run the tire in the correct direction, not reversed. The deep sipes are in the center of the tire where you get the most wear and not on the sides. Trikes wear out the center of the tire from not leaning. I have lots of traction through the turns and has good stopping with no sliding.

As you turn the front wheel it will be lifting the front of the trike which I believe will cause hard steering.

John, Tracy runs a mc rear tire, reverse direction, this has something to do with the lamanation. Right now she is running a bridgestone Battle Wing BW 502. We get double the mileage, plus it gives you another inch of rubber on the road...and it hasn't changed the steering that she can notice.

That's good to know, is she running stock front tire size or something else? I'm not quite ready for a replacement but will probably stockpile one, not sure I'll make it through summer...depends on how much traveling I get done.

Which size is she running. Was looking at the 140/80/17 vs the 150/70/15 thanks, David

John & Warlock, The tire size is 150/70 R 17, this tire has gotten a little pricey...I'm running a Continental Conti Motion on the front of my Valk and really like it. Looks like a Avon Cobra, this is a rear tire I believe for one of the Harley's, I reversed the rotation also for the same reasons as the other tire...tire size 150/70 ZR 17 it sells for $112, purchased from Rocky Mountain ATV. Tracy informed me her next tire will be the Condtinental..

David Tyre size is 165/70/R14 so a 14"wheel on the front. I have the same wheel on the rear also. The front end is a total replacement from EZS sidecar company. Both the wheels are also made by EZS and the sidecar is an EZS Sovereign. I think it is badged as a Friendship sidecar in the US.

Look up double Darkside, this should be the rear MC tire on the front. You should find a lot more info on them.
If the rear tire is a uni directional tire, you want to mount it backwards.
