The trick is teaching them to let go of the Hog once they bring it to ya. That is a big gator, well over half the width of the road so puts him in the 10-12' category at least. This is about halfway between Sarasota and Ft. Myers, FL on the SW coast.

RIVER ROAD NEXT TO I-75 & U.S. 41, JUST SOUTH OF NORTH PORT, FL.

As for hitting a gator, I did run over the tail of a much smaller one on my way over to Cocoa Beach one summer. I was on a Wing and doing about 50 on a road known for accidents so was on the alert for anything. This fool thing came from the right and never paused, about 4' long, and I couldn't swerve because of oncoming traffic. I moved to the right far as possible and still hit the last 6" of his tail. Thankfully it wasn't the size of the one in the picture, as it was.....the Wing felt like I'd hit a small log.

Wild hogs are another thing. They'll hang around the side of the road and root in the ditches. You never know what's going to spook them...a dozen cars can go by and all of a sudden they'll zip out and cross in front of you. If you see anything like a large dark lump from a distance, watch it carefully because that lump may move at the last second. Those things you don't have a chance of staying up regardless of size except a baby porker maybe. They're as unpredictable as deer when it comes to a last second move on you.

That one above could be the one you nipped the tail on....  as his tail appears to have been "damaged" I think....   Grin

I know that road John, teaming with wildliffe. My Aunt lived there and I've seen Florida Panther twice in that area.

This picture was taken by a Lifeflight helicopter flying over Lake Istapoka,
(For those of you who are not local, Lake Istapoka is near Sebring, Fl.)
That has to be a HUGE gator to have a whole deer in its mouth!
Are you ready to go fishing on Lake Istapoka ?!
If you ski -- try not to fall.

The alligator was found between Lake Istapoka and Pinedale estates... near a house ,
Game Wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate.

Jayne and Don Hobkirk coul d hear the bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them
that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the Lake that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as being exaggerations.

"I didn't believe it," Don Hobkirk said.

Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated.

Florida Game and Parks game wardens had to shoot the beast...

Joe Goff, 6' 5" tall, a game warden with the Florida Game and Parks Commi ssion, walks past the 23-foot, one inch alligator that he shot and killed in the back yard of Jayne & Don Hobkirk...

Damn! That's a big lizard. Shocked
Those lizards may be able to eat a small hog or topple a motorcycle but the ones we saw along the Tamiami Trail were no match for a speeding Kenworth!
Indian huts & dead 'gators all along the Naples to Miami route.

I used to swim in some of the old phosphate pits east of Brandon, did for years. But one weekend camped out on the same lake
and saw a 9 footer sunning on the bank, never went swimming in freshwater again.

Hate to be a party pooper, but.....

The photos of the 23 foot gator shot by a cop in Florida was really a 13 foot gator, and it was in Texas...

http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/wcgator.asp

The pics of the human remains in the gator are actually a Nile Crocodile, it was highly unlikely it occurred in Florida...

http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/dontfish.asp

And the pics of the 'gator with a whole deer were actually taken in Georgia...

http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/gatordeer.asp

(Not trying to slam Florida or anything, I know ya'll DO have a lotta gators, but just pointing out the facts... Wink )

Thanks a lot, Serk!

I just hate it when the facts get in the way of a good story.

BTW, you got anything on the advisability of urinating on a frozen carb?   Wink

Yeah, 'tis best done in private, or at least shield the rider of an unknown gender from view before you proceed with this technical procedure!
