So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: May 16, 2021, 07:07:56 PM »

Heard rumors of Double Darkside but have never seen it and when I look for an applicable cage tire I am not finding anything.

After riding my new to me trike and watching the tire wear, I see no reason to not consider going DD on the trike.    Does anyone have any info on this?

Double dark side means you run a rear motorcycle tire on the front of the bike in reverse

Are you talking about what Dennis is saying ? If so, you’ve seen mine. Or are you talking about a car tire on front ? I can’t imagine it would handle better. But you don’t know until you try it. I’d be very curious about it.

Didn’t know that.

I’m still considering a car tire up front on the trike.   Just considering it.
Maybe it’s a silly idea but after riding it on this trip and watching the tire wear and how it handles, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.   I don’t see the need for a rounded tire up front on a trike.
Not to suggest I’m an expert but not asking first seems a bit silly.

I think you have to put the spark plugs in backwards too...

It looks like this would fit.

Yeah , I saw that one but being limited to 50 mph and for temporary uses pretty much squashes that one.

Oh, I didn’t even look at the specs. Have you found any suitables ?

What!??  You're planning to ride that tricycle at more than fifty miles per hour?   Shocked

No, that’s why I asked.
Talking to some fairly knowledgeable friends, there used to be a version of this tire used on Goldwing trikes but, I’m not finding anything.

From just the quick look I did, I think you would have to go to a different wheel. Probably not worth it for an experiment.

Take a look at this post on the Tech board. I asked the same question a short time ago and they gave some good suggestions. I don't believe I'll be going to a car tire up front, probably follow Highbinder's lead on this.

I know nothing about the subject other than to say, I’ve noticed that European sidecars rigs routinely use what appears to be a car tire on the front. Maybe an area to research?

Will look into that but, Meathead is probably correct about such an experiment.   Thanks for the pointer.
