Age isn't everything - you also need to include physical and mental condition .

Yes, lots of factors are in play as we age. Staying active is key I believe, no matter how you do it.. our chronological and biological ages can vary by a great degree.

The clock says I'm 62 but I feel like I'm ~45.. Until I look at my mug in the mirror  Grin

Dang...those folks make me feel like a youngster & I'm 83. I decided to get a trike last fall, had been thinking about it for the last few years but wasn't ready for it. Not sure I'm ready yet but I now have it so will keep following that front wheel for a few more years...God willing. Had to laugh at my granddaughter in Florida when she told me she expects to see me still riding into my 90's. Said she can see it all now...grandpa doing 95 on I-95 at age 95. I hope she's right.  Grin

Going to be interesting to see how many miles I can do in a day with the trike, although I don't feel my 500-600 mile days are back. The last long day I can recall was after IZ in Johnson City, I headed out for Vandalia, IL. The route I took was just a few miles under 500, I was ready to get off the saddle by day's end. I believe that was the year I won oldest rider at age 68(unbelieveable) so it has been a few years, no mileage close to that since.

My father "Solo1" stopped riding when he was 87. He started riding with a whizzer engine on his bicycle when he was a kid. Moved onto a 27 Harley and soon after a 49 Matchless. Even road that Matchless to the Blueridge parkway from Ft Wayne IN with a buddy.  Did I mention that Matchless was a "hardtail". He gave up riding from the late 50s through the 60s to raise all of us. He started riding again in the 70s with a Honda 350 twin. He always had a bike up until he quit riding in 2015 at the age of 87. In April of that year he called me over to his apartment to talk. When I got there he told me he was done. He told me "it's a beautiful spring day and I can't get myself to go for a ride". His reasons mainly were distracted drivers and age inducing slowing reactions. I told him I was disappointed but understood and I respected his decision to stop on his own then from a hospital bed because some moron on their phone took him out.  He continued to get his "hair in the wind" in his Mazda Miata until just prior to his death from Pancreatic cancer on August 4th 2019.

One of my finest memories was riding with him, both of my brothers and good friend Doug "six2go" Haller to Pigeon Forge TN to ride some of the same roads he rode back on the Matchless all those years ago. We rode many other times, even several times to Brown county in southern Indiana. But that trip to TN was the longest and most memorable.

He rode with me and my brother Chris "Psychotic Bovine" to quite a few Inzanes,Covered bridge rides and the Dragon Roundup.  He loved his VRCC family and posted here often. He made many friends along the way in the club and was awarded the "oldest rider" award several times. He even got a standing ovation after one of those awards.

I miss him every day especially when I ride but I know he continues to rides with all of us. He and RJ are looking over all of us........

Man that lady's sharp as a tack and full of piss and vinegar.. My mom is 82 and still sharp, she's a lot more active now for the last couple of years since my dad passed which has really helped her get stronger.

I don't think you can say enough about the spirit of motorcycle riders, I believe that Spirit helps them to live longer and better lives.

You're still a young guy by today's standards John, I really like that goal of the 95's!

I don't think some arbitrary goal of 'x' amount of mileage per day makes much difference, the secret lies in just getting out there and enjoying the open-air along with the stunning views you can only get from riding a motorcycle. In a car you can't feel the slight temperature changes and smells are muted, there's nothing like riding through the trees in the mountains.

Sorry to hear about your father passing, sometimes I still dream of having a conversation with my father.. Still can't believe he's gone. He was 82, strong as a bull and still very sharp.. Died in his sleep.

It's good you have memories like that with your own father, I had a strained relationship with mine for most of my life. In the last few years before he passed I was able to mend fences with him somewhat due to my girlfriend. I'm still very thankful to her for that.
