Just thought that I'd post this for anyone that might be travelling the Blue Ridge Parkway anytime in the next year.

The bridge over the Roanoke River (MP 115) will be closed for repairs from 5/23/2021 until sometime next spring (2022).

https://www.nps.gov/blri/learn/news/roanoke-river-bridge-2021.htm

This combined with the section that has been closed for about a year (MP 123-136) and isn't slated to be open until spring of 2022 as well.  Effectively closes the BRP from MP 112 to MP 136.

The easiest detour around the entire closure is:

Directions coming from the north:

Directions coming from the south:

Google maps link:

I also have these directions saved in PDF form.

If anyone would like them, just send me a PM and I'll email them to you.

Notes:

Use extra caution while on the Route 419 (Electric Rd) portion of this detour. This is a very high accident area.

On the plus side this detour takes you up Bent Mountain on US221. It's a very fun mountain!  cooldude

Seems to be getting worse as the years go by. We used to like to travel it on the way back north every year. But the detours kept getting worse each year to the point it seemed there were more detour miles than parkway miles. Apparently this issue hasn't gotten better.

Thanks Mark.   cooldude

Maybe everyone who has to take the detour can come to your house for lunch?   Grin

I don't know about that, But if possible I'd be glad to meet anyone that was passing through for lunch.  Smiley

Thanks for the heads up on this, I usually pass that way this time of year on my ride down to Fla to see family then on my way back, going to do it in late Aug or early Sept this year, hoping  on a little less rain.

I kind of know my way around that area, although its change dramatically since 77-78 when working on a power line from Troutville to Lynchburg, two years ago I dropped into Bedford to stay at a motel and thought I’d go see the place I used to live, its a bank and some chain restaurant by a walmart, so much for memory lane Grin

I see that you're in the UP.

Are you going to be at the Yooper Ride?

I might swing by there, Newberry is only 45 minutes away
