I have just removed all the PAIR parts and then started wondering if the engine now needs to have a PCV valve? Seems to me that the bottom end of the engine is now sealed and no escape route for the crankcase pressure to go. All car engines have either a PCV system or the oldies had a breather on the oil cap. Thoughts?

If I understand the system corectly, the smog gear only interacted with the exhaust, not the crankcase or any part of the internal engine functions. Removing it should have no effect on pressure with in the engine itself. I am sure the oil chamber is vented in some way already. I just haven't looked in to that part of it.  Cool

Crank case still feeds into the air cleaner the filter box / oil trap (or whatever it is called) should still be under the tank on the left hand side at the rear.

Colin is correct; when you replace your air filter you will find an oily residue in the bottom rear of the airbox. Which drains into what we call the dragon drool tube. The tube extends below the bike on the side oposite the kick stand. The tube has a plug and needs to be drained once in a while.
