Video shows attack on Southwest flight attendant on San Diego-bound plane https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/story/2021-05-28/video-of-attack-on-southwest-flight-attendant-on-san-diego-bound-plane-emergesSAN DIEGO — Just after the 44-second video starts, the punches start. In the back row of a Southwest Airlines flight from Sacramento to San Diego on Sunday morning, a woman in a middle seat shakes her finger at a female flight attendant and threatens to sue. Suddenly the passenger next to her springs from her aisle seat and hits the flight attendant. She keeps on swinging, the video shows, until another passenger jumps in, putting himself in the middle of them and yelling at the passenger to sit down. “Don’t you dare touch a flight attendant like that,” he yells at the woman, now back in her seat. Behind him, the flight attendant pushes her hair back off her face, revealing blood running down her cheek. Someone off camera repeatedly says “She came at her first. She came at her first.” That encounter sent the flight attendant to the hospital and the 28-year-old passenger to jail. It also generated headlines after someone posted footage of police escorting the passenger off the plane. It accompanies national news stories reporting that airline passenger misconduct has jumped in recent months. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a news release earlier this week that, since the start of the year, it has received about 2,500 reports of “unruly behavior” by passengers. The vast majority of them — 1,900 reports — relate to passengers who refused to comply with the federal face mask mandate. Edited: Makes me wonder if ejection seats can be added to commercial airliners........ Probably not a good idea but, it is a thought. Rams

RAMs, like the idea of ejection seats, though it would cause a rather rapid drop in air pressure

I like the ejection seat idea! Seriously, I wish the flight attendant a speedy and full recovery. No one should be subjected to anything like that when they are doing what they are required to do for their job!

I read a book-can't recall the title-where a master spy of some sort did an enemy agent on a plane full of people. He had a seat behind his enemy and took a small box out of his carry on bag slid the box under the enemies seat pushed a button and a steel rod withan anathesia already on the rod then started on it's upward journey. Retracted the rod and recovered the box and it appeared as if the enemy had fallen asleep. While I Never used one I did in Fact work on them in the Navy. While there are a Lot of Pilots alive because of an ejection a small percentage have gotten out injury free. Even when in proper posture the human body can git hurt during an ejection. RIDE SAFE.

Ejection from a pressurized plane will not work. Tasers and saps work. (for those that don't know, there's lead powder in these) They just need to modify the little demonstration speech before each flight to include a statement that if you get physical with the flight attendants, they will knock your ass out. It may also be time to stop serving alcohol. Adding one of these to the bulkhead wall might be instructional too.

It may also be time to stop serving alcohol.
Southwest Airlines has indefinitely suspended alcohol sales on all flights after a months-long rise in passenger disruptions. The announcement is a reversal of the company's announcement just last week that it would phase inflight alcohol sales back in throughout June and July.

And put a sign on it.... ASSHOLE CHAIROn a MAC charter (all military families) 747 over the Atlantic, I stood up and offered to buy red wine for everyone under age two... half of whom had been screaming their heads off for the whole flight. (children often have inner ear trouble on aircraft, but man that gets old quick) It was pretty funny, I got cheered and booed at the same time. The stew just asked me to sit back down. This was why forever after I carried both ear plugs and shooters muffs on any long flight.

But, I knew other airlines had stopped serving/selling alcohol in coach, so I googled Southwest... since all they have is coach.

Up until my last flight early March 2020, I flew most airlines big and small as I criss-crossed Canada and the US for over 30 years for work . Maybe it's because I'm a "little bit" older now and I just forget, but I really don't remember any incidents of unruly passengers on board. Annoying yes... interesting yes... loud or smelly yes... sick or medical emergency yes... but nothing where security was needed for someone being an a**hole or a safety threat. Some of those smaller US airlines were interesting for sure, but again I always felt passengers were for the most part decently behaved. I remember in particular right after 911 how everyone was especially curtious to each other and to airline and airport staff. Maybe it's a good thing I ended my travel days now... I'm sure it's a bit different with how great the divide has become between people and how frustrated people have become over the past 18 months in particular. I also never understood drinking on planes. Of course I know why the airlines sell liquor, I just never understood why anyone would drink to excess on a plane. It's not like in the old days when we had ample room in coach and could stretch out and have a decent nap. We also used to get served with real knives and forks....Imagine that today... lol.

“All you gotta do is arm all your passengers,” Bunker said. “And then your airlines, then they wouldn't have to search the passengers on the ground no more, they just pass out the pistols at the beginning of the trip, and they pick 'em up again at the end." Whoa, not a dang word mentioned about ammo.................. Rams
