Hello folks,

I bought a new VN-900 for my wife (she thinks a Valk is too heavy) from a non-dealer and decided to do the service and maintenance myself. I was wondering whether or not the cilinder heads need to be retorqued. It doesn't say so in the manual, but if I put a new gasket in my car for instance, the cilinderhead need to be retorqued after a while. If not, why is there a difference?

TIA,

Beer

Depends upon the gasket!!

Most newer specie gaskets are made so that retorque is not required.

If you re-torque head -you may need to eyeball valve adjust then.

The only head re-torque i've ever heard of is done on most Ducati's and or Aprilia's. The 800 mile which gets a valve adj after. Actually most metric bikes have the head studs that once torqued should never be retightened.
