It's supposed to hit here before sun up. Expected high for Thursday is 33 with 40mph gusts... oh boy! We should have lows in the teens for the next three nights.

I chickened out riding the bike into work today. The weatherman said it was 12 degrees in McKinney with a wind chill of 0. I had ALL of my winter gear laid out and was mentally ready to go. While I was getting ready the reporter I was listening to began to talk about how quickly bare skin will freeze and get frostbite and I started to think about the only exposed skin when in winter riding mode, my face. I like my face. Then the traffic reporter started talking about the dangers of ice from run-off and sprinklers and I threw my gear into the garage and jumped into the cage. I hate ice.
There was hardly any traffic and it was a pleasant drive in each direction.

I rode into work today (Saturday). I think it was somewhere around 12 - 15 degrees out when I left the house. Had all of my winter gear on to include my full face helmet. I was toasty warm all the way into work. When my co-workers saw me with my riding gear on they told me that I was crazy. I am crazy about my valk. I had ridden in 18 degree weather before so riding today set a new benchmark for me to beat when riding in cold weather. What's the coldest weather you have ridden in?

I've ridden in temperatures around the mid 30's a few times - this New Year's Day (36) for example. I know that's nothin' to you northern Ft. Worth/Dallas area folks. My backyard thermometer registered 15.1 degrees fahrenheit this morning. My house sits atop a hill which is usually 3-4 degrees warmer than down in the valleys...Brrrrrrr! Thought about taking a quick ride into Wimberley this morning just to say I did... decided to stay warm inside instead!

What's the coldest weather you have ridden in? It was 37F when I left Frisco for Ft Lauderdale last January. The wind-chill at 70mph + too few layers on the lower half + almost 400 miles that day made it 1) the coldest I've ever been while riding, and 2) the coldest I plan to ever be while riding. Man, that Uranium Green is fast!

What's the coldest weather you have ridden in? 23 degrees I rode into work today How far do you commute SG? Not very far. Just enough to get the engine warm. Sometimes if I get up early enough I take the long way into work. With all the layers that I had on and all of my cold weather gear that I had on, I was not cold at all.

Not very far. Just enough to get the engine warm. That's the big difference Vic. I commute 28 miles with 27 on those miles on the freeway. With 35 to 45 minutes on the bike the cold has time to creep in and suck the warmth out of ya. That being said, I must admit that I now have Gerbing's pants, coat liner and gloves so only my face and feet get really cold when I ride.

The coldest ride, of any distance, for me was a few years ago, with my HD riding brother...
He's a St Louis Rams fan. Between his wife and I, we scored some tickets for a game against the Raiders, in St Louis. Left South Eastern Wisconsin, late Saturday morning, with temps in the upper 50's to low 60's. Could see a storm front following us down, almost all the way. Got in to the Hotel, Saturday evening, just as it started to pour...
Game day Sunday was sunny, and cold. Temps in the high 30's. We went to the game, and when we returned, temps were in the low 30's...
Monday morning, there was ice on the seats of our bikes, and the temps were in the upper 20's. We knew it was gonna be cold, and packed the clothing for it. Sweatshirts, Jeans, Leather Jackets, and Chaps... We were not ready for the temps to stay about the same, or for them to drop a bit, all 300 + miles of the way home. Baby, it was cold...
That trip, and many rides with my buddy Brutus, convinced me that 'heated' clothing was the way to go. Synergy heated Jacket liner and Textile gloves, are now in my wardrobe, and I love 'em.
BTW, we've got a heat wave here... High 20's today, and maybe high 30's tomorrow!

Chuck, sometimes I wish I lived farther away from my work so I could enjoy the ride into work. It just so happens that I live about 5 miles from work, so it takes longer for me to get ready to ride my valk into work than it does for me to just jump in my truck and go. Living that close to work does have its advantages, as far as gas savings and wear and tear on my vehicles. Not having to get on the superslab is another advantage of living that close to work. I would like to try what Raymond from Kansas (The Black Pearl's Captain) just did last Saturday morning. He went out for a ride in -10 degree weather. I would like to try that to see how my cold weather riding gear would hold up.
