It’s time for some new rubber for the Wing, went down to the local Honda dealer to book it in.

I’m at 26,000km, which is when the manual calls for the air filter and spark plugs to be replaced. I told them they can do that while it’s in, I don’t want to have anything to do with the air filter replacement. The service advisor said that even though that’s when the book calls for it, their experience shows that it’s way too early unless I ride a lot of dirt roads…which I don’t.  He said they’d put a scope in the intake and see how dirty it is, only replace it if it needs, which he’s sure it won’t. Said the same for the plugs. If they have to do the air filter, they’ll do the plugs too, but they’re likely still fine too.

Told them to check the brake pads and replace them if needed since we have a trip hopefully coming up, he said if they have enough life to get me to my next tire change, they’ll leave them in.

They could have made a bunch of money on just doing the air filter, spark plugs and all the brakes, but they will only do what’s needed.

Dealers get a bad rap, but not all are bad.  If anyone is riding through Saskatchewan and needs service, I’ll recommend you a good one  Grin.

agree spark plugs and air filter need not replacing more than likely well after the scheduled maintenance, as well as brake  pads, depending on riding style of course.

I am only on my 2nd set of brake pads front and rear in 45K miles since 2001 and the rear needed it but the front could have gone awhile longer but figured do both at once be done with it for another 40K miles.

I did notice braking being much better/quicker engaging in the rear, but the front not so much since about 40% left almost or so in front.  Rears were getting down there to near replacing.

Cookie you should be wearing out the front pads way before the rear.

Jason,

You're right, of course... While many do deserve their mercenary reputation, others are actually reliable and quite trustworthy. I've encountered both like most of us have, and I do make a note of the best ones... Thanks for reminding us all that there are still good folks out there. Also, glad to hear you're still around and getting ready for another big adventure! Good luck in your travels... hope to read about some of the highlights!

Thanks Bruce. I was so impressed with the dealer that I had to share. We always tend to complain about things but don’t take the time to offer praise where warranted. Just a nice reminder that there are good honest people and businesses out there.

I’ve been happy to read of your travels again and we hope to get out in the wind more in the next couple months as well. Wife and I had a nice 1500km ride last weekend touring Northern SK.

My daughter’s boyfriend is home from Arizona for the summer where he plays baseball and goes to college. He’s playing summer ball in Sylvain Lake AB, so her and I are going to take the nice 9 hour ride west next weekend and check out a couple games, with a rip over to the mountains between games. She’s in her 3rd year of her nursing degree and this might be one of the last times we’ll get to tour together.

In July, the wife and I are heading west again…we’re so lucky to have those mountains a good day’s ride away.  Wink

Then also hoping to go visit our friend msb with my son in August to do some fishing…but that’ll be in the truck.

Take care, ride safe.

Glad u found a  good one.   I had taken  my Interstate  only to Honda of Crystal  River.  Had rear drive service  each tire change, of course.   At 80k the final drive was shot.  Luckily  I've a parts bike.   That  dealer went out of business  and is now Love Motorsports.   Last tire change decided to stay near the house. Put on a set of Avons . That's when the rear drive was discovered.   I provided  the o rings and  the moly lube.  Its from Germany, got it from a German  millwright , we used it to aid Installation  of turbine  blades . Stupid  expensive  stuff  also gave my valk mechanic some.  I'll be going to Trikes by Design  in Inverness  from now on.
