When I bought my Valk, it had new tires on it. The owner assured me that all of the spline maintenance had been done at the time. That, as many others have found on theirs, was untrue. At the last service (my first time doing it), the driveshaft and pinion cup were wasted. The final drive splines were visibly worn, but my estimate was about 25 or 30%. I cleaned it up and lubed it well. Obviously, it didn't get any better between then and now, and there's probably some increased wear due to the "hammering" that occurs on and off the throttle. Valkyrie final drives are darn pricey on Ebay, and none of them look too great anywho. All of the 1500 Wing ones look like they have a million miles on them, and pictures of the splines are crappy at best. I emailed the one trike shop I found locally to me, and they couldn't find any in their storage trailer. Told me that they have been throwing them out over the last few years since they haven't been current for quite awhile now  Undecided

Now that I've rambled, I'm looking to find a ring gear with decent splines to press out, and then into my ring gear. I've read many threads about the Goldwing ones. Anyone know if the hub splines on a VTX 1800 are the same? I know the final drive is "reversed", but is the hub in the ring gear the same? Can't compare part numbers, since the ring and pinion would be very different. They're all over Ebay, and at short money too.

I had the same problem.  Ended up purchasing a new ring and pinion gearset plus new wheel hub from Partzilla.  A local fellow Valker with previous experience was kind enough to press the splines out of the new ring gear into my old, thanks Alan.  $600 for brand new parts, it was worth it in my opinion.  No slack feels real nice.  Makes me think my standard needs it also.  The splines on it are pretty worn, I'd say 35% or more than my Interstate with all new parts.  Major difference.  My pinion cup and shaft were fine.
It probably cost me at least twice as much versus used but I know what I got now.  Hopefully with my own proper maintenance I'll never have to worry about it again.

Peace, Ron.

Posting here to put up a big public thank you to Charlie McCready. He reached out to me after reading this thread to tell me that he may have what I needed. After checking his stuff, he sent me some pictures and it looked like what I was trying to find. He gave me a price that was even better than fair, and sent the parts to me. I checked the splines and they showed very little wear at all; much better than mine. Actually, it wasn't even detectable by my eyes. Only using a pick could I feel any step on the drive side of the splines (read that trick in another thread here). Very minor step on the wing splines; much more on the splines from my Valk.

While I guess some would say this was a simple transaction, I would disagree. During this, his wife had a cardiac procedure (thankfully successful). All of our messages here and texts were like talking with an old friend. Though we haven't met, I'm certain that Charlie is a great human being. Honest, fair, and kind.

Thanks, Charlie!

Ken they dont make em any better than Charlie. He helped me get my bike to his garage once while I was on the road and had an alternator failure. Just lucky that I was only about 20 miles from his home and I happened to have his phone #. Gave him a ring and without hesitation hes was on his way to help. Took me to lodging that night (offered a bed in his home) picked me up the next morning and to the Honda shop then to his place to replace the alternator.
Met him the first time around 15-16 yrs ago in a motel parking lot (we were both on valkyrie’s) then some 10 yrs later was on a ride with the wild bunch and there is Charlie Mac. He remembered our talk outside the motel some years earlier. Proud to know him and call him a friend.

By the way, I hesitated to post this part, because I don't want people to expect this kind of thing from him, but here goes. Not only do I feel that the price he stated was better than fair, he wouldn't let me pay him until I received the parts and inspected them myself. So, he paid the shipping and sent parts to a guy he only knew through messaging here and texts, basically on the honor system. Well, the parts were in great shape, and I sent him a check (if you read this Charlie, please let me know when you get it. My trust in the USPS isn't 100%). Again, a gentleman I'd like to call a friend. Hope our paths cross sometime so I can give him the handshake that our deal felt like it was based on.
