It's been since Sept 2019 since I put my bike away for the winter. I thought I filled the tank, added the Marine Stabill, took the bike out for a reasonable ride, turned the fuel off, and ran it towards empty into the garage.

COVID hit in 2020, I ended up in the hospital with a blood infection, played a good boy and just stayed home, no ridding for me, so the bike sat the whole year.

Well, I rolled it out the garage earlier this year and gave it a wash. Today, I rolled it out again, installed my charged battery, hooked up all the wires.

Leaving the fuel off, I cranked the engine over to get oil through it. Let it sit for a short time, and did it a second time.

Then turn on the fuel, and cranked for about 30 sec. Not trying to start, but to just get fuel into the carbs. Bike didn't try to start.

On goes the enricher, and crank again. Very quickly I started to get a little sputter from it, but no start. Waited a little while. Back off on the enricher, and cranked again, and the bike starts right up, and sounded nice.

As it warmed up, I got a little burping from the exhaust. Enricher off, and the bike ran fine, still a little noise. I figure it needs to be used. Fresh fuel and some carb cleaner, and get some miles under those wheels, and things should come back nicely.

Now, just waiting on insurance. When and for how long. I'm still in a high risk job, we're still suppose to stay home, and I really want to get out there and see the World again. Well, only time will tell.

Moral of the story. Store your bike properly.

1 other thing. I mentioned I thought I had filled my tank before storage. I was only at 1/4 of a tank on my gauge. Where did it go, or did I leave it empty so I could remove it again last years storage for work being done in it? Could I really evaporate 3/4 of a tank of fuel sitting in a garage?

Lastly, no fuel leaking from the rails. All seems and smells dry.

Glad it started back up easy. The only place the fuel could be (if not noticeable outside anywhere) I would check the oil. If it didn’t evaporate it my have leaked into a cylinder, past the rings, into the oil. If oil levels are good, you should be fine. Fuel will evaporate over a year’s time quite a bit. Enjoy your rides.  cooldude
