I return from a 800 mile trip Friday and park my Interstate. Today, Saturday morning, get on, start her up and left hand says, hay no clutch.  Shut down, get off, look under, time for new slave cylinder.

Walk to bench, pull out tools, remove slave cylinder, replace with new, rebuild master, new fluid, bleed, go for 150 mile ride.

If nothing else, Good Timing and Good for another 22 years!

As you said, Good Timing.

What was it that actually gave out, any idea?

For me, I attribute the failure to #9

The new one was stiff enough to hold a flare-shape, the old one
had succumbed to becoming cylindrical-shaped...

YARFS - Yet Another Reason For Spares (for all of our newer members, and some not-so-new-timers).

I've laid in spares of almost everything which could screw up and leave me stranded, and I've laid in parts to rebuild almost everything that can be rebuilt. Those things which can't (U-joints, water pumps, etc.) are bought in multiple quantities and stashed.

Ditto with chrome and other accessories. If it's more than a passing customization phase, keep a spare on-hand in case of damage, rust, what have you.

I usually travel alone so I make sure wear items are dealt with before the kickstand goes up. If I'm going to be on the road for an extended period of time, my known associates have access to pre-boxed failure items...alternator, water pump, U-joint...even a complete rear end. This stuff can be overnighted if necessary. There's a Valkyrie-specific extra tools and small-spares kit that goes from bike to bike, depending on which one I'm taking for the day/week/month.

Round that out with a Stop-N-Go portable air compressor, a plug kit and a first-aid kit.

Yes, I have a spare (new OEM) clutch slave cylinder in Ye Olde Stash.  2funny

The seal which Honda calls the CUP on the piston has a crack. It is no longer soft. I will rebuild it to keep as a spare. Maybe someone passing by will need it some day.

Have the slave at home.
Mine also failed recently.
These bikes are the best ever made.
25 years and stuff just starting to wear out.
Money well spent.
Best $12,000 I've ever spent in my life..and I'm an old guy!
