15 June 2021 My neighbor Monk-another Nam Vet-drove me to West Plains to the Surgery center and dropped me off. And for lack of a better description it looked like a cattle call. Lotsa folks in the waiting room. I'd arrived about 0815 for my 0830 appointment. They came out with a wheelchair-protocol-about 0920 and I went for the preop phase. All the "stuff" they check Before surgery. The ONLY issue I had was the Nurse Insisted on putting the I V needle in the back/top of my hand when I had Requested the crook of the elbow where they normally draw blood from. After 2 failed attempts in the hand they put the I V needle in the crook of the elbow. Rolled me into the Surgery and transfered to the table. 3 Nurses and the anasthesia tech and he talked to me a bit and the next thing I recall was my name being called bye a Good lookin Nurse Lady. I was a bit groggy but otherwise O K. We were sitting in a Good Resturant about 1125 A M enjoyed a Good breakfast. A postop check up more paper work and I was driving the cage Thursday maybe 50 hours after surgery. The Football field is 2 blocks from my house and I Am seeing individual leaves on the trees there that I was Not seeing with my old galsses. All I can say at this point is I Am CONVINCED this was the Right thing for me after being diagnosed with the cataracts. Right eye being done the 29th of June. ANY of y'all puttin this off-Giterdone! RIDE SAFE.

That’s great. It must be a good feeling to see things clearly after having been blurry. Hope the next eye goes just as well.

I had neglected to mention I was given a choice prior to the Surgery. Those choices are-near or far. Yeah-I needed that explained too. Near with out corrective lenses or far with out corrective lenses. I chose the far option. And I already KNOW I Need corrective lenses for reading how But I have to wait about a month after the last Surgery to get my eyes examined for the glasses. So June 29 for Right eye glasses eye exam the 30th of July and my 6 month grace period runs out the 8th or 9th of August so Should be good to go on that score. Should I Not get license renewed Before the grace period expires I will have to redo all those paper tests and have a ride along with a State Examiner! And should I have to take a M/C riding course I already KNOW Phatt Ghurl and I am NOT capable of the turns they have on the course at the examining station. Already tried that after hours one day! Not Good with a Large M/C or a trike. And I pointed this out to a Nice Female M H P examiner But it is set to State standards I was informed. Anywho I am Happy to this point with the choices I've made. RIDE SAFE.

Good information.
My eye doctor said I was a candidate for this procedure either next year or the year after. I have no issues seeing but things don't seem to be as bright as I remember. But then I do wear variable tint prescription sunglasses.
I was told to spend the extra bucks for the laser option. Which, from what I have read, is the better choice.
The only real question that I had was I will have to get the lens set for distance viewing not "reading" (both eyes). So, I will have to get "reading" glasses, which I guess can be off the shelf stuff. However, my current prescription glasses I ride with are bifocals and the near vision part is set for about 20" so I can easily see detail on the GPS. So, can I do the same after the surgery?

They have an adjustable lens that you can get rather than the set ones. It adjusts just like a regular lens does and although its not perfect it does allow you to do both.

So, in-between the surgery on the eyes what do you wear for glasses, if any?
I mean, you now have one eye that is (we shall say) 20/20 and the other eye is 110/20 (or something). The glasses you had before would work for one eye but not the other.

I don't wear my glasses while driving now as they Really fuzz my view now. They Are in the cage on the passenger seat. I have that macular degeneration thingy goin on in the right eye. The lens transplant will NOT help the macular degeneration but Will help with lifting the veil of the cataracts. The cataracts happen so gradually that until the new lens I had NO danged clue at all! Ain't modern medicine kewl? RIDE SAFE.

My doctor put in one lens more for distance and one more for close. I find myself closing my right eye often when using the computer.
I wore contacts at the time so one eye fixed at a time was not a real issue.
I rode Kansas to Dragons on the Beach (Florida) the day after my second surgery. Interesting night vision.

Glad it came out OK, for the rough tough cream puff. Well those two missed I V attempts in the back of the hand hurt a mite. My vision was 20/20 in one eye and the other eye was 20/80 could not see the DMV test and terribly hard seeing in the rain, so had to get it done. My vision is now 20/20 in the eye they did not do anything on and 20/15 in the eye that they put the lens in. Only one eye was done. I had mentioned this when you were talking about getting it done, but wanted to remind you. Since you may want to ask before or if you get the other eye done. I have the muitifocal lens and do not have any trouble seeing close or far. I had mine done many years ago and almost every nurse kept saying you are very young to have this done, so I dont know if age has anything to do with the possibility of getting these. But it may well be worth anyone to look into. https://www.optegra.com/eye-health-blog/cataracts/cataract-lenses-monofocal-vs-multifocal-the-pro/Cataract Lenses – Monofocal vs Multifocal. The pros and cons Multifocal lenses This type of lens will allow you to see near and far – similar to varifocal glasses. The lenses work by using several different optical powers at varying points across the lens, and it works by relying on your eye muscles to move when needed in order to bring the correct distance into focus. These work best if they are implanted into both eyes. Multifocal lenses can often offer excellent distance and near vision, meaning that if you work at a computer all day it could be the perfect choice for you.

Good information and gives me more stuff to ask the Doctor. One other question.
When to have it done (time of year). It would seem that, if I did not want it to impact my riding, I should have it done in January-February or November-December time frame.
Thoughts???

And yes - someday I'll be getting this done too. But for now - "I wear my sunglasses at night..." and especially during the day !!!

Down time is minimal in most cases so riding should not be a problem. The biggest problem in the dr visits as they measure and dilate your eyes.

Far as Phatt Ghurl ridin goes-bugs Have gotten past the W/S and both pairs of glasses in the past. No Way No How do I care to put that new lens thru That! TRUST ME Please-I Did NOT wanna miss Inzane 21 But circumstances beyond my control took care of That! RIDE SAFE.

my doc, whom I trust because she is named Bonnie and saved me more than once, said if you have more than a certain amount 1.5 ish between the eyes after correction the multifocal can cause you problems dizziness or headaches I only had one eye with cataract.
So on her say so I got the single type and my eye vision in the left eye is such I do not need glasses to see the leaves on the trees, but I cant read the display on the dash. Paid for the laser cut. It was actually pretty cool watching them cut my eye !
On the ride to and from inzane most of the time I just wore amber sunglasses and put on my glasses when getting gas. I need the glasses for reading anyhow. I think 3.5rx in the eye for reading now Right eye has been fubar for reading for decades but I can still catch a fly in flight go figure

The healing time is only for the incision to remove and replace the lens, not for the lens itself. The lens is synthetic material. No problem riding after the first day. You should be wearing protective lenses over your eyes anyway. I turned in 1,000 miles the day after my second replacement. I ride without a windscreen. Some of us ride November - February.

You know you need to have your eyes done when That is SO me 20/200 with astigmatism in EACH eye (My military medical flight clearance had MWCLWFCEP on it - short for Must wear corrective lenses while flying and carry extra pair) - and that was before age 45 when I started wearing progressive bifocals for near vision as well....

Again, thanks for the update.
Another question. As Willow said, the lens are synthetic material, my question is are the lenses "standard" (one size fits all) or do they have to be specially made for each person?

Well as I've stated I have a fixed for distance. I Will on the other hand NEED corrective lenses for reading and puter work. I was given a card today that at a guess my optemitrist will need. Any body here that knows about optometry feel free to chime in. Quite a bit of info on this business sized card. I hope I relate the Important parts of this. Length (OT) 13.00 MM Optic (OB) 6.00 MM Model PC Power L161SE plus 16.00 The card also has the serial # and batch info # on it. And the one for the left eye info is very similar. AND Already my right eye Is functioning a bit better! I would haved used the plus sign But that button turned in it's resignation bout 2 weeks ago! RIDE SAFE.

RIDE SAFE. The model is sposed to be above the L161SE. The plus 16.00 is sposed to be under power. RIDE SAFE.
