Well, all I really need is the starter button assembly but seems I need to buy the whole thing.  Before I do, anyone have one they want to sell?  Best I can find online is used for $40+ shipped.

BTW, are start button assemblies on other model honda switches compatible?

Thanks

usually, all that's needed is the *push button* because the copper contact has melted into the nylon substrate. At least from my experience, Honda start buttons look marginally a little different, the Shadow line for example. You can chance buying a used unit.

I suggest installing the start button with the white box it came with. There are 4 barbs that clip the white box to the stationary contact plate (black cover).

I did the starter button maintenance on s VTX 1800 and it seemed identical. I suppose there could have been a subtle difference

That's due to the wiring and plugs and clamshell variation. If you're gonna cannibalize a specific part, transplanting is likely a match.

I've never taken a switch apart, but in todays world, could not this part be made with a 3D printer?

It's easy enough making the model. Should be simple to make the file from there, and post it on the internet, for anyone to use. Just need to find a friend with a printer and ask him to print it for you, it's not too large.

But is it made from nylon or ABS?

Nylon, then maybe it's something I need to look into with my CNC machine and machine it out of a block of material.

You would literally make a fortune and then some for a lot of bikes. Oddly there isn't any knockoffs so perhaps it's well protected.

After mine sat for a while one of the wires broke off the top of the black piece. I was able to solder it back on w/o to much difficulty. May take a look at where it's broken. never had an issue with the slider on mine.

RonW hit the nail on the head.  That's all I need - the button "slider" assembly.  Brass contacts melted.  I have the Shadow 1100 and the piece is identical so, since it's in the shed for several maintenance projects, switched (no pun intended) the parts.  Works just fine.  BUT, it would sure be nice if they would sell just that assembly!

Still looking.....

gordonv gonna manufacture them on his CNC machine and members get a discount.

Shadow 1100 has the same bags, tailight, etc as the Valk and I guess the start button assembly.

I take it you are referring to the ACE Tourer having the same. Bags as the IS, tail light is different (or my 98 was). I would suspect Honda had a few of the starter switches use the same slide. Knowing which ones are interchangeable means we could find rough external ones (slide damage), and part them out.
