Apparently some rare phenomenon called a "heat dome" over our area of BC, causing temperatures to rise at least 10°C above normal for this time of year. Of course today was the day we had scheduled a rare get-together of  6 Valks for a little meetup and ride... meetup was great, ride was brisk and not as long as it might have been in normal temps. Got up to 42.5°C (109°F)...Man, that's hot for here Shocked Supposed to continue for another couple days, even increasing in temp by another couple degrees.

Global warming is not a fossil fuels thing at all, it is communist woke liberals heads exploding thing.

If enough explode, the temps will drop.

Apologies Mike for politics in a riding post. Glad you fellers got out for a ride.  I didn't know it could ever be 109 up your way.  Warming up here too but not THAT much.

Jess, as far as I know, a "heat dome" is not necessarily a condition invented or used by the eco-warrier crowd, but more of just a scientific term used to describe a unique high pressure Ridge over a specific area. This 42.5C was up towards the town of Lytton in the Fraser Canyon...many years Lytton records the warmest temperature in BC and sometimes all of Canada. A lot of our Southern neighbours think of "Canada" as one single territory... Frigid in the Winter and not so Frigid in the Summer. That's quite a distance from fact though... here in SW BC we have reasonably mild Winters, long warm Summers with regular temps in the 8O's F... flanked by wetter Springs and nice cooler Autums. Generally good riding weather most of the year (except today  Smiley)

Yup, we're still on, for Sept 9-12 in Grand Forks. It's looking promising so far for the border being open by late August for "non-essential" travel (that would mean old guys riding Valkyries back and forth). Keep your eye on the BC board for updates... we have the whole Motel reserved for us and  as soon as we get a better idea we'll announce individual reservations are open. Be nice to have you join us cooldude

What's too hot or too cold is simply a factor of relativity.   Once you acclimate, it's all good.

That doesn't mean we like getting acclimated.   I absolutely hate snow, used to love it.   When I first moved south, I thought the heat and humidity were going to kill me.   Now, when it gets down to freezing, I don't want to go outside.  I used to love the cold.  Is it age or what I'm used to.   Don't know but, this I do know.   I enjoyed throwing that snow shovel into the trash.  Wink

Edited:   And, I get to ride my Valkyries a whole lot more/longer down here.   smitten

MSB if feel your pain.  We are under the "Dome" also.

Hey, anybody, could you send us in Southern OR some of your cooler temps.  Right now it is above 70 degrees (21C) at 0700.  Normally this time of year it is in the upper 50's (10 C).   This "Dome" is really nasty.  Our highs this time of year at around 90 (32) at the hotest.  They are projecting today and tomorrow being over the 100 mark (35 C).

Quite often around here - 70F at 0700 is looked upon as the coolest part of the day - most of the summer, in fact. I think a heat dome is often over the Great Plains in the late spring through early fall.

The trade off in VA, is that while 6-7am is the coolest part of the day, the humidity is way up that early.  For a bike ride, leaving at 9am, though warmer, is more comfortable.  But home by 12-1 is a must on hot days (for me).

70 @0700,
80 @ 0800,
and 90 @ 0900

Is not unknown around here during the "season known as summer " (and it's extensions at either end).
I think 100's usually wait until the afternoon....

The town of Lytton, where we rode up towards yesterday, just set an all time high recorded temperature for Canada today @ 46.1°C...that's 115°F for those who relate to hot temperatures in triple digits. Like they say in AZ though... "it's a dry heat"  Cool

You ride a bike at speed with no windshield in that kind of heat, you get cooked just like a convection oven.

So don't do it.   Smiley

They're saying 97 here Wednesday.   Tongue

Exactly Jess... faster you go, hotter it is. Riding  back home yesterday reminded me of my first job after high school, working in the furnace dept at the steel foundry.  No riding today... luckily for me I'm surrounded by lots of cool, clean lakes and rivers.... a few minutes in either direction and I'm chillin'... like today Cool

We lucked out yesterday, only got to 100 as apposed to the projected 102.  Today they say we are going for 103.  We'll see.

Got to 60 last night.  We normally get 40 degree change from over night lows to highs.  Got to love low humidity.  I grew up in North Eastern OK.  95 degrees with 95% humidity was common this time of year.  That would kill me now.
