So, the next two weeks i've decided to focus on getting everything right on this valk. I have some questions. Yes I have the manual and I'll be reading it thoroughly. I plan on changing the rear tire and front and tire along with the bearings. I already have all the parts for everything but had been putting it off to enjoy riding season. As you remember my rear valve was leaking and it worked for awhile but went flat on my the other day at work. I already have the metal ones to install, tires on the way. As you may recall I've been talking about putting on my new forks for some time but didnt want to miss riding so i've been riding it dry and all oil has leaked out of the left side fork. Anything else I should replace while I tear it down. I'm only tearing it down to the point of tire changing and painting everything. If anyone can think of anything else I should do while im in there I would appreciate the advice. Thank you   Cool

1. Do i need any special tools to change the bearings on either wheel?

Wheel dampeners ? (By “left side fork”, I assume you mean the rear shock ?)

Why would you assume the left side fork was anything but the fork on the left side. Forks are in the front. If he meant the left rear shock I would assume he would have said left side shock.

It seemed to me he was only talking about work on the rear. (Besides replacing the front tire) He also said ALL the oil was gone from it. It seems to me it would be really hard for all the oil to leak out of a fork. It would be relatively easy for all the oil to leak out of a Progressive rear shock. (It has happened to me) Maybe I’m entirely mistaken. Sometimes guys refer to the forks as shocks. That’s why I asked.

My left fork leaked for two years with a red shop rag tied around it to keep the oil contained. I finally replaced the seals and when draining them I couldn’t tell that left fork had ANY oil missing. I started calling it the Exxon Valdez.

Yes, I was actually all over the place there. Basically i've been putting things off and now it all has to be done at once. I've been accumulating parts and tools and now since my back tire is ruined i have no choice but to replace the tire. Left side fork is dry so its time to change them to the used forks I bought on ebay. So since I have to remove both tires to do all this and I have the bearings, front and rear for the wheels, Tires on the way, White ceramic paint for various parts, some other misc. stuff like an under glow kit. I'm going to just bite the bullet and do everything at once so just curious about what else I should do since all the fenders, gas tank, saddlebags will all be off to be painted. I like the suggestions about the shock bushings, i hadnt thought about that. Thank you everyone
