Looking at another valkyrie purchase.
Both bikes are $5000
Both are tour models.
One has 30k mileage
One has 68k mileage.
Someone please talk me out of the high mileage bike.
Awesome color and has all the accessories I want already installed.

68k isn't high mileage. Valks last for 400,000 miles.

There is that school of thought that low mileage toys may have been neglected for years. It's conceivable that the 30k bike could be in worse shape than the 68k bike. Either way, neither is high mileage.
Buy the 68k bike. Life's too short.

This is my thought also. Usually carb issues and dried/missing lube.

I would get the one you like the best, but I would pay less for the lower mileage one feeling it needs more immediate work.

My preference is the IS model. I ride with my wife mostly and storage comes in handy, along with the radio.

My Hildr is 78,000 miles young...mostly stock with everything in perfect working condition.

If it were me looking at those bikes, I'd determine which bike to choose after a test ride and then thorough inspection...we can't choose for ya...

All previous posts are right in the sense that the Valkyrie flat six engine is bullet proof.

68K is barely broken in from an engine's perspective.

That being said, there is the issue of the final drive (FD). It seems that the amount of torque that the flat six puts in the FD is close to the limit... as a result, is probably the only weak spot in the valkyrie design.

If you can, I would recommend to ride both bikes and put them in a lift to inspect if the FD is making odd noises or is not tight (i.e. does the wheel feels like rocking? Does it spin freely (within the limit of a shaft drive of course...)?.

Even better would be to remove the wheel and have a look on the splines.

Another tip is to use a flash light and try to look if the inside of the gas tank has any sign of rust.

Finally inspect the fluids (coolant should be clear blue, brake fluid transparent, etc) as that may point to the bike being neglected.

I've owned 4. Bought 1 new, 1 with 3000, 1 with 62000, 1 with 32000 all standards. All have been solid reliable rides all the secondhands from friends who had bought them new. Comprehensively bent the 1st at 65000 so scrapped, supercharged the 2nd and sold it at 55000, sold the 3rd at 130000 and still own the last. I'd buy on condition not age or mileage and a good long test ride. I'm not interested in chrome or  electrical add ons but if it has good screen and bags bonus. If you can take someone who knows the Valk and preferably does his/her own wrenching all the better.

My first 1997 valk has 60,000 miles and runs like new.
2nd 1997 I bought has 20,000 miles and I believe the guy jetted the carbs to match the cobra exhaust.
Hate the cobras..runs like cap.
3rd valk I bought with 40k runs beautiful..just needs a valve adjustment...very slight lifter ticking.
Love the ride right after valve adjustment..really feel the power increase.
I'm buying the high mileage bike..beautuful..just beautiful..pics to follow!
