I know this is not valkyrie, it's goldwing, but could you offer an opinion.

I'm looking for the 'Element, CB Antenna', '39161-MAF-770'. (item 3 in the drawing)

Besides this Partzilla item shown, google also offers;

Amazon, AdeptPowerSports, Revzilla, ebay, and so on.

Either these others do not have stock, or they don't ship to canada.

The basic price shown is $94. I'm prepared to pay this but,

Anybody know of another less pricey source.

I once had to replace the antenna on my I/S, it seems to be the same used by the GL1200.

Back then, I bought it from this guys (Sierra Electronics):

I have a NOS Goldwing CB antenna, I bought, to use on my IS. But, my current IS has a CB antenna, so I currently have no reason to keep it. I forget when and where I bought it, but it must have been 5+ years ago.

I see a good number of GL-1xxx antennas on eBay every time I look. Also buy from Canadian vendors who ship to the U.S. (including some rather bulky electronics).

If you need the antenna shown in the picture, any GL1500 or GL1800 part will work. A complete assembly (Item 2) may be easier to source than just the whip itself.

Around here CB is no longer used.
Ch19 is still active in my area (though not near anywhere like the boom of the late 70s), Ch5 is the LATAM trucker channel (akin to our 19) and GWRRA/HOG each have a group calling channel. Not sure about any other owners groups or touring clubs.

If I go on group rides of appreciable size, there's usually at least one other individual with a CB and we try to position the radio-equipped bikes to be at or near lead/mid-pack/sweep spots. In addition to CB I can also transceive MURS, FRS/GMRS, various ham bands (I'm a licensed amateur) and Bluetooth helmet-to-helmet.

Get a group that stretches out a couple miles or more (I've ridden in plenty) and you can never have too many comms options.

The equipment looks good, but the prices are higher than partzilla.

That antenna is a coil of wire connected to a metal stick.  The length of wire plus stick is 275cm.  You could make one yourself easily.

I want an element that looks like it belongs on the bike. Great idea though.

items 2 and 3 are both available, but item 2 is twice as much.

Do you plan on transmitting with the CB radio?

An antenna with the coil and specific length is only needed for transmitting.

We were thinking of using this facility for transmitting (2 goldwings). I remember that the proper impedance antenna is required to minimize SWR while transmitting.

A HAM!  Well, I don't have to tell you the wavelength calculation.

73,
Pluggy
WN4KG
No, but turns-to-diameter ratio for the loading coil...position of such between the elements...and when you move into VHF and above, the dielectric constant of the coil form itself can become an issue. I wrote software several decades ago to calculate all this as a couple of my favorite limited-space antennas were and are the loaded sloper/vertical and the loaded dipole. My main 75/40/15M operating position has a loaded dipole-inverted vee whose inner legs resonate on 40/15 and the loads plus end sections get it to resonate on 75.

As far as calls...I'm owner of the Cubic Astro and JRC Amateur groups on Groups.IO and co-owner/admin of The Island of Misfit Hams. You'll also see me on QRZ and Eham in their Tech sections, though (as with many other forums I belong to) I refuse to participate in...knitting. That should give you a few bread crumbs by which to find me.

Pluggy, if you're active on either 40 or 75 PM me here with a sked time and we'll see about making it happen.

csj:

Go to eBay. Look for "GL1500 antenna". A seller in Cali has these new for $30.
