I want to beat Honda engineers with a large spiked stick.

Different size bolts to hold the lower cowl on. Same stupidity as the plastic on the ST1300.

Then having to remove the EVAP canister. Is it needed or can I leave it off once removed?

I just did that. I hate the upper cowl. Even though the manual
says to remove it, I got the idea last time that (some of?) its
fasteners could be removed and its lower edge could be
pulled away from the upper edge of the lower cowl. Then the
lower cowl could be removed without having the wedge the
upper cowl in and out of there... I hope I remember to try that
next time...

Wouldn't leave it off unless you do a bit of research first and see which hoses to plug and which to not. I also am not sure if you have to remove it or just tuck it out of the way.

This is a PITA, I don't want to do this again. Don't trust anyone to work on it though. I don't know the answer to the EVAP Canister.

I have to find the vacuum diagrams again and will take a look about the canister.

Flushed the fluid and now it BANGS into 1st gear.

I put a small bottle of fluid through and no I didn't let air in at the reservoir.

The fluid that came out was a dark color. Needed to be flushed.

Of course the parts wont line up for reassembly.  Cry

Unfortunately a nights sleep hasn't given me any flashes of inspiration. This is the problem, in part.

The tab on the upper cowl just wont fit into the slot. This of course means that the corresponding holes on the left side of the bike don't line up as well.

That's the upper cowl I guess... I hate it. Don't break those little tabs.
Moving the direction of the wheel might make room in the right
direction that helps you get it to fit...

I've wiggled and waggled to no avail.

I even stood the bike on its handlebars and seat  uglystupid2

Nothing worked.

I did find a solution to the misalignment of the lower cowl hole below and to the right but I'm not mentioning it on a public forum.  Shocked

The tab will remain free in the wind.

I have never had that misaligned and it has to be put in a certain way and slid in. Once you do that it will work easy.
