Well, finally got my Ultimate Seat, the last piece for the conversion. I  have the two sub harnesses and std tail light. Been reading what I can find and thought I could get this project done. Well...electrical is my nemesis. If it's not glaring at me, G to G, Br to Br, etc...I'm lost. I pulled the side cover off and....yep, I'm lost, a mish mash, at least to me. I tried reading the wiring diagram but it didn't help. Now I've changed the timing belts and did the pulley mod and minor mechanical stuff like that, but electrical wiring is out of my comfort zone. Does anyone have any pics on this mod, especially the wiring? I'd really like to get this done, but, and I hate to say it...smh...if not, I'll be searching for someone in my region that wants to make some extra cash.

What sub-harnesses do you have for the tail light? The tourer or the interstate?

I've got the std/tourer harnesses. After connecting both harnesses I'm just a bit confused of the connection to sub harness a to the wiring under the side cover. Trying to figure out what's what under the cover. Also not sure what's done with the trunk brake lights/running lights after connecting fender harnesses. Would like to have the trunk lights working when trunk is on. Probably over thinking it. Thanks for the link.

Sub-harness A of a Tourer has an extra wire (5 instead of 4). That's the brake light and you won't find a matching factory connector. You'll have to tap the extra wire into a nearby G/Y or G/R wire. I don't have an Interstate to take pics of the actual physical components.

(?)The trunk light wiring merely gets disconnected then reconnected when you put the trunk back on. I think it's Wire 9.

So I guess the new wiring stays connected. Not sure about the trunk hookup when reattaching the trunk then. I saw one video where the trunk wires where on a connector and just plugged in to a quick connect.  Is wire 9 a sub harness from the trunk? If so, I'm all confused now...smh. Like I said, electrical just isn't my thing. I'm sure that's quite apparent...lol. I'll take another look at it tomorrow. Once I get into the trunk and get a look at the wiring it might make more sense.

Yes.

In the graphic below I placed Wire 9 side-by-side to its electrical schematic. Wire 9 has a plug for the Left brake/tail light and another plug for the Right brake/tail light in the trunk. Plug X is where the Wire 9 plugs into the harness.

You can tap the G/Y wire in Plug X to power the extra wire in Subharness A since you're using a Tourer subharness.

You actually could fully power the super valk taillight with the wires in Plug X with just your interstate subharness A and subharness B. Other members have pointed this out. If by chance you followed my advice to get Tourer subharnesses, it wasn't absolutely necessary. However, the Tourer subharnesses does provide a more waterproof connection under the rear fender.

Thanks Ron, that's great info. I've got all the trunk connections under the right side cover unplugged. I'm going out to remove the trunk in a few minutes. My next situation will be tapping the extra wire off off sub harness A. I'll look for plug x. Thanks again.

I've got the harnesses on and fender on, just ready to connect the 4 wires from sub harness b in. Question on the 5th(G/Y )wire. Ok... just to make sure before tapping in, don't want to short out anything. Like I said, if it's electrical I'm lost. I just T tap into the G/R wire going into the connector on the bike side. The connector for the trunk lighting. I'm assuming that's basically what the diagram's telling me. Is so, that should do it up, except for figuring out a remounting of the antenna. Thanks for all the help.

Question on the 5th(G/Y )wire. Can I just T tap(14/16 gauge) into the G/R wire going into the connector on the bike side. The connector for the trunk lighting.

I'm assuming that's basically what the diagram's telling me, just want to make sure before splicing in. That should do it up, except for figuring out a remounting of the antenna. Thanks for all the help.

Affirmative. with the stipulation that the G/R is still plugged into the G/Y wire (at Plug X) as G/Y is honda's designated brake light wire on practically all bikes. Both front and rear brakes switches. It's only with the Interstate where G/Y goes into the trunk and thereafter turns into a G/Red. I surmise to differentiate it as an extension cord to G/Y.

The G/R wire is going into a connector under the right side cover along with 2 other wires, a Br/W wire and a Dotted Green wire. It's the connector for the trunk lights. The connector isn't plugged in b/c the trunk is off. I'm assuming that's plugX b/c of the wire coding and it's the connector for the trunk lights under the side cover. The wiring from the trunk into that connector matches, i.e. G/R, BrW, and G dotted. There's no G/Y wire.

Found it. Just saw some other posts where I/S guys are splicing into the G/R trunk connector wire. Great info Ron, and on this site. That's were I'll tie in. Thanks!

It is a little late right now, but when you do electrical work in the future, you MUST have a tester. It takes all the guess work out of it.

That did the trick. The trunk removal makes the bike handle much better, takes away that top heavy feel. And that, combined with the shorter/smaller ws, makes the bike feel quicker. Had a Tourer 10 yrs back and this bike feels "flickable" now, like my Tourer was. For me...the best mod I could have done. The bike looks really nice too.

Thanks again Ron. And Jim, you've got a good point there. Thanks for the link.
