Hi I'm Rachel, quite new too the forum , HOWDY!
Got my first Valk recently and I'm in love.
I am a bike mechanic-- however, this beast is different than any other I've owned or worked on (I've been nicknamed "Virago Masochist").
Can someone in my area give me a hand installing the Dan Marc shutoff and making sure I'm not in a potential hydrolock ?
I have the 6x6 exhaust with baffles, stock intake and filter.
PO only swapped the pilots (35 to 38) mains are still stock (100) so I'm putting in 105 mains and keeping the 38 pilots  and making sure needles are shimmed correctly.
Would be much help with an extra set of hands to make sure I haven't missed anything!

Your better off staying with 35 and the 100 jets with 6x6 exh.
check this site out on this and you will find most thing that factory jets are best to stay with.
Timing is where you will best get what you want.

What exactly do you mean by timing?

Howdy Rachel!

I can't be much help with jetting for those Cobra 6 into 6 pipes, but I did want't to welcome you to the Texas Board.  There is a different school of thought from different folks on carb adjustments for those pipes and you'll find those conversations on the 1500 Tech Board.  Or, you could start one yourself...

Also, if you haven't already, maybe consult with Cobra about jetting for the 6 into 6's.  They sell jet kits that match-up with their exhausts.  (I believe they're Dyna-jet kits in Cobra packaging.)

As far as timing, I think turtle254 is referring to the Lemonster 6 degree trigger wheel.  It advances the spark a bit which yields better fuel mileage, plus more oomph in the middle RPMs.

If your looking for some carb replacement parts, vacuum hoses, etc. Red Eye provides some good products...

Anyway, good luck!  And if you're ever in the Hill Country, give me a shout!

Hi Rachel!

I'm out in Katy, and while I'm marginally handy with the Valk, I've not done the Dan Marc shutoff myself.

However, would be glad to discuss what I do know about Hyrdrolock (not as much as some, but as much as many), and my experience with my '97 with Cobras (had it since 2013).  If you're a bike mechanic, odds are you'd teach me a thing or two!

I've been thinking about hosting a "wrench party" once it cools down a bit like the guys in Dallas have done in the past - I've got a big driveway and beer fridge, and need to spend a day working over my Valkyrie (Penny).  Now that my oldest is headed off to college, I'm hoping to have just a little more time for fun stuff between running the remaining kid around and that list of honey-do's!

Maybe a wrench party would be a good way to get the Houston crowd together for a sharing of knowledge and introductions?

GeoffreyB:  We've needed a wrench party for a while.  It's been WAY too long.  If you're offering to host, that'd be great, pick a day and publicize.

Rachel:  What part of Houston are you in?  I'm on the southeast side.  I haven't installed a cutoff valve, but I've messed around with the fuel system before, so I'm confident that there won't be many surprises.  If you can wait till Geoffrey can host a wrench party, we'll tackle it then, but if you think you have a hydrolock, then you can't start it.  Contact me and perhaps I can run by.

Mark and Rachel -

What do you think would be a good timeline for a wrench party?  I've only been in Houston since 2015 (Dallas before that) and know August is typically hotter than blazes, but it starts cooling off in September.

Should we wait until September, or try to schedule something this month and hope for a break in the heat?

I'm thinking a Sunday - probably no sooner than August 22 (Saturdays this time of year are full of Dynamo games!).  Your thoughts?

Way too long since the last one ,for me anyhow and the valks have been neglected ,complete carb revision on the cf and fork rebuild on ct, so they have not moved much and been busy with other stuff. Too hot anyhow . but October is coming .

Since I neglected to answer this until September:  Yeah, let's wait till September!
I'll PM my phone number so we can talk a little more expeditiously.

Geez guys, I just now seeing all your responses!  Did I miss the coolsmiley wrench party?
Thanks welcoming me, I now know to check my posts for responses  Lips Sealed
It didn't turn out to be hydralock, I installed a replacement OEM petcock and got in the habit of bumping the starter button !
I still would like to meet Houston valk riders, I'm on the east side of town, Baytown .

No, you didn't miss anything because we didn't set anything up.  We should now though, the weather is looking up (as he looks outside at the angry clouds).
I'm in Seabrook, so just down 146 from you.

I have some strong opinions about that OEM petcock, and I'll be happy to share my experiences.  A wrench party or just a BS session sounds good.
