So biden stopped the border wall, yet, that costs us $2 billion !  Yep, from him, that sounds about right.

I wonder how much we're paying for him to have stopped the pipeline.

We can't afford this idiot.

We can't afford this idiot.

It's way worse than that. The woke are going to destroy
the auto industry... that's not just places that make cars,
but the places they buy stuff from. I live in upstate SC,
there's a ton of part manufacturers here. There's a giant
Borg Warner plant here in Seneca. Soon, potentially, a
huge industrial sector will be wiped out.

The transition is hardly noticeable yet on showroom floors. But it is upending the
automotive workplace, from the engineering ranks and supply chain to the factory
floor. Experts like Mr. Penkevich are retiring early or being laid off. Parts makers that
for generations have made the same pieces for engines and transmissions are
jockeying to supply electrical components
.

                                        ...

Developing a new gas engine can cost as much as $1 billion and involves hundreds
of suppliers. Over the past several decades, auto makers in most years rolled out
between 20 and 70 new engines globally, according to research firm IHS Markit.
That number will fall below 10 this year, and then essentially go to zero, the research firm said.

                                        ...

BorgWarner Inc.,  founded in 1928 to make gears and other components, still derives nearly
all its profit from making parts for gas-powered cars.
I

                                        ...

And not all auto makers are fully embracing of electrics. Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda
has said electric vehicles are overhyped and will make cars too expensive.

Was talking to a friend in Texas yesterday as he was driving to the gym. He commented that one road he takes goes past a number of dealerships and lately he has noticed the new car lots have been half or less full. Me thinks the "wokes" have yet to awaken, and going by past performance it will probably too little...too late!

Was in my childhood hometown of Campbellsville, Ky over the weekend. The Chevy dealer there had zero new vehicles on the lot and the showroom was empty. The Dodge dealership by the same owner group had a fair number vehicles, mostly all trucks. I’m fairly confident that the Chevy dealer could get you a vehicle from one of their other locations in much larger cities.

I won’t assign “blame” but it was surprising to see the effects of our current economic and supply chain conditions.

GM and Ford trucks are still waiting on chips. We have literally thousands of brand new trucks stored all over Fort Wayne from the GM truck plant. They can only drive them off the line and park them then remove the chip for the next truck. It's crazy. Not sure on cars this is just the trucks.

John, my Dad and Aunt told me about 1946.  Each served in WW2.  Retuning to the US, Dad needed a car, but the only ones available were Hudson, Nash and models nobody wanted.  He had the money but waited until 1947 and got a new Chevy.  Aunt was a Navy officer and was able to get a Nash.  Drove it across the country seeing the sights with a cousin and sold it in California for more than she paid for it.

Now in 2021 I can get 1.99% financing on a new Ranger truck.  But.... The ones available are either fully loaded luxury or Highway Department type.  The versions everyone wants have a waiting list.  I have the money, but the product is in short supply.

Wife told me a in June I should plan on getting a 2022 Ford Maverick.  Just wonder how many will be available in 2022.

Has nothing to do with the border wall but will we see a new cottage industry like the current five finger discount on catalytic converters? Break into new vehicles and steal their chip! I wouldn’t know where to even look but some enterprising crooks surely do. I must have a devious section of brain matter somewhere.

In the UK as more countries got included in the EU there was a dramatic rise in car crime.

Catalytic converters, windshields, spare wheels, windscreen wipers. Anything that could be quickly removed was.

This May or may Not shed some light on the automotive chip problem. Generally there are between 1 and none ships anchored off Long Beach L A area. As of the item I just read the Are Now 33 Huge container ships anchored off So Cal waiting to unload. Some have been there Weeks! Thinkin as SoCal handles about 1/3 of all asian imports the chips me be at anchor off SoCal. And these are the huge 11000 container count per ship-triple what they were 15 years ago. So just Maybe. That's actually some good logic there, thus proving you didn't have to go to college to be able to think. I hope you're correct and they can start eating away the backups as they start unloading the containers.

I too am kinda in market for a new vehicle. [A Pacifica, as much as I dislike mini-vans]. There are none around, except for a couple used ones

Actually - a Pacifica is not that bad a vehicle - we had one for a few days rental while our Golf got some front end damage repaired (no - neither the wife nor me did it - it was a cousin of mine who  had just gotten her license and she didn't stop hard enough at a light exiting a Walmart in Newton KS.). You will probably be happier with at least the 3.6L six (if you can get a larger motor - I would).

When we make the move to full time Florida we'll get rid of the CR-V and Ram, going to one vehicle. JoAnn might be able to drive a Pacifica or an Odyessi [?].
I thought the Chrysler only came with the 3.6. But I'm not about to get a 4 or a hybrid.

Why would it cost so much ?  Thats my question and the point of the thread. Its not the cost to build the wall that is this subject though, its the cost your president says it will take just to put a stop to building the wall.
The folks from Texas are now continuing with the construction, something has to done. And this president just sits on his thumbs doing what he has always done best,,, the wrong thing. He has become a master at that.

And thanks to the dereliction of duty by the Biden administration, Governor Abbott has just had to activate the Texas National Guard to assist the Texas Department of Public Safety in arresting the trespassers illegally crossing the border.

(If only we could do the same to stop the Californians coming here, but that's another story.)

Who is getting the $2 billion? Contractors? Patrick didn’t provide this information in original post.

As to the second. If only there was a global network that could be used to find information?

And now the truth……
The Biden administration on Friday returned to the Pentagon more than $2 billion in military funds that President Trump had diverted for border wall construction, denouncing the transfers away from the Defense Department as wasteful.

I heard Mexico has resumed construction and footing the bill. LOL

Maybe the Biden administration should require the DoD to use that windfall toward sending some highly trained soldiers to the southern border to defend our national sovereignty, by any means necessary.

Oh yeah.  The Biden administration doesn't care about our national sovereignty.

That was not a windfall. It was money previously allotted to the DOD.

Trump stole it from our military. Now it’s going back.

"Stole"  Grin

You just can't help yourself.  Grin

House Homeland Security Committee passed the Border Security for America Act, H.R. 3548, out of committee on a party line vote.
Ok so how did he get it?

It's right in front of your eyes!

H.R.3548. Authorized $10 billion for wall construction.

What else do you need to know?
And I thought the wall was supposed to be free!

The Trump administration has notified Congress that it plans to divert $3.8 billion from the Defense Department's budget to build the border wall.

This is in addition to more than $11 billion that's already been identified to construct more than 500 miles of new barriers along the southern U.S. border with Mexico. That includes money that Congress has appropriated and funding that was previously diverted from military construction and counternarcotic operations.

The latest funding diversion takes $1.5 billion originally allocated for buying equipment for National Guard and Reserve units, such as trucks, generators and spare parts, as well as fighter jets and ships.

You seem thrilled about our new parasite pseudo-citizens.  Now we need a military presence at the border to keep them out!
You don’t speak for me. You don’t have a clue.

I'll play.  With gaping holes in crucial areas of the wall where Biden has discontinued construction and a defunded, demoralized and understaffed Border Patrol, how would you address the problem crisis?  If you were Commander in Chief, that is.   Undecided  Lips Sealed
