An answer, for those who use the projector-style lights:
Look closely for the "Up" ( ^ ) arrow on the lens. The DOT certification lettering is on the opposite side of the light and should be on the bottom when the light is mounted.
What threw me is the arrangement of the projector setup. A lot of these lights have the small lens at the top, with the larger at the bottom of the assembly. Mine was exactly bass-ackwards and that;s how I installed the unit in my headlamp shell.

Standardization is nice when everyone does it. The way I had mine mounted resulted in my low beam being in the trees. Of course, one had to wait until after dark to discover this....
