CDOT, Colorado's highway department, recently showed some roads as closed on their website. The problem was that the roads were open. Due to the closure of I-70 caused by mudslides, CDOT wanted to encourage (trick) motorists into using their preferred detour and stay off of some of the more twisty mountain roads.

But it gets worse. CDOT employees convinced some of the big tech companies (including Google and Apple) to give them trusted partner privileges, so they could designate roads as closed, without verification, on widely used mapping apps and websites.

This is another example of the government deceiving us 'for our own good', with the help of big tech. No wonder so many don't trust them on other issues like COVID and global warming.

Saw a news report about this last night.  It's underhanded and not honest.  Apparently lots of larger vehicles and semis were getting jackknifed and causing huge problems.

In agree that doesn't justify the deception.
