The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wrote, in a document released Monday, that it has identified 11 crashes since 2018 in which a Tesla vehicle using the company's driver assistance system, struck one or more vehicles involved in an emergency response situation. Four of those crashes occurred in 2021.

NHTSA now plans on studying the Advanced Driver Assistance System, otherwise known as autopilot,in the nearly 765,000 Tesla vehicles produced between 2014 and 2021.

For several years, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), in cooperation with our state motorcyclist rights partners, have warned of the need for increased oversight of this new technology. Allowing vehicles to be deployed on our nation’s roadways, that cannot adequately detect and respond to all roadway users, is dangerous. Regulators and auto manufacturers should work together to ensure tragic crashes, like the ones found in this report, never happen again.

These people that think they can let a car drive itself and not pay attention have more money than brains.

Anyone besides me watch 60 minutes Sunday Aug 15? Reaon I ask is there was a segment I Truly wanted to watch. 3 or 4 different companies are in their words close too driverless 18 wheelers. One company sees this happening this year 2021. All the needed sensors are mounted at various places on the truck and at various heights. I have on more than a few occasions been driving and have seen other 18 wheelers COMPLETELY covered in ice and slush and have run out of washer fluid while in this chit. And Anyone that lives in snow country where salt is used know's that white haze that drys in contact on your windshield. Even commercial airliners Require a pilot even though the aircraft is on autopilot. Will these vehicles brake for a deer or a person on the roadway? Will the auto drive have sensors to KNOW When to slow down on low traction surfaces? Just two of too many questions. I was told from the first time I got under the wheel of a big truck-The Driver IS ultimitly responsible for Everything that happens in that Big Truck. How ya gonna sue a computer? RIDE SAFE.
