How do you detremine which size riser is best? I have stock handlebars on my 97 Tourer. Up and back a little would be great. (mostly back)
Thanks.

I would say it is kinda a crap shoot but sit on your bike and sit comfortable and put your hands up like you are riding and see where they end up. I bought some of the shims so to speak the rasie the bars 3/4" and back 3/4' not bad worked out pretty good..
Here they are on Ebay

I have the riser extentions similiar to the ebay ones. Although the ebay ones look nicer and are cheaper. At full crank to the left my cables are about at max extention. Overall I would get then again.

The easiest way is to look at other Valks. If they have a different riser, ask if you can sit on their bike and see if you like it. I've got Harley Deuce risers on mine. Bought them after I sat on Moonshine's Valk. I like my arms bent as I ride and these allow me to do it. Also, I was sitting on the nose of the saddle. After a couple of hours, it really hurt to ride. The Deuce risers allowed me to slide all the way back in the saddle. I can ride all day now.

did the duce risers stress any cables? Do they give more than the 3/4 inch rear placement?

Most of this is personal ergonomic preferences / where you feel most comfortable between hands, butt and feet placement. I never really liked the stock bar width and height all that much, so after monkeying around with years of cast off bike parts, I went with a riser that raised up 4" and back 1 1/2". Then I replaced the stock bars with some cast off Harley Heritage bars that are narrower, grip to grip by 2 1/2", and have a different grip angle than the stock Valk bars and have enjoyed many thousands of miles with that set-up over the years. All done without replacing any cables either. Spend some time and find out what feels right for your style.
