Hey everyone, I don't do a lot of posting on here, but read a lot and have met a lot of ya'll on here and at some rides.
Saturday morning, our town of Waverly was devastated by a major flash flood, killing several people, and many missing.  Stephanie called me from her restaurant and alerted me as to what was happening and to go get our daughter-in-law and baby out of their place because the waters had reached their back door I looked outside and could not believe my eyes. The creek that runs across the road was now a raging river and I saw major debris floating down the road that used to be in front of our property. I could not get out.
I called my daughter and her husband to see if they could get to her and they did and got them out of there.  Later, as soon as the water went down enough, I headed to town.  When I got there, it was awful. The water had receded just about as fast as it came. A friend of mine was stuck on a bridge in town, and he said the water came through like a dam had broken and he could see people being swept down the creek and there was nothing he could do to help it was so swift.
When I reached the restaurant, people were in shock. Reports coming in said houses were washed off their foundations and being swept away. People did not even have time to react and get out, it was so fast.  One friend was going house to house getting people to get out and flee the area. she managed to help save several lives, only to lose her own in the process.
I could go on and on telling you firsthand what happened next, what we did, and how it all came down over the next 48 hours, but the main point is this.  Waverly folks need your prayers in a big way.  Over 200 homes were totally destroyed, vehicles piled up like rubble, bridges out, road torn up, bodies still missing, water plant nearly totaled, road department and all equipment destroyed, people without any electric or water or food or places to stay, although as rescue and volunteers began showing up, people were being helped.  It is pretty bad friends.
Now the good part, if there can be such a thing right now.  We have rescue teams from every part of the state of Tennessee that have come in. From police, troopers, national guard, electric companies, water companies, emergency cell towers, emergency washing facilities, on and on.

THIS IS THE America I love and remember! Unbelievable! So many good people giving their time, money, efforts to help us.
It is going to be a long hard road now, but all we can do is put one day at a time in front of us and work together to put our little town back together and help each other heal.

Please pray for our town and all the families who lost everything. the ones who lost their lives and their families. Please pray for the rescue teams, police, deputies, troopers, electrical workers, road crews, cleanup crews, suppliers, and on and on the list goes,  that have come to help.  Thank our God who has put all of the love into the hearts of these wonderful people who are here to rescue us.

I am sorry if I have rambled on too much,  it is just so overwhelming I cannot help it.  Pray, please.

Jimmy,

Glad you, Steph, and your family are all OK! I saw something about this on the boob-tube, but I wasn't sure just where it was happening at the time... Holy cow! I'll be joining the legion of others who will be offering our own prayers for you and all involved! Thanks for the detailed personal account!!!

I watched this on the news. It’s heartwarming to hear that help has arrived in strength. We will continue to pray for the rebuilding and for the survivors who lost loved ones.

Must have been frightening not being able to get out and help your family. I’m glad they made it. I hope and pray your town rebuilds and survives.

jumped on here real quick this morning before I go back in to town.  Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.  They found the last missing person yesterday around 3pm I think it was. A young girl that worked in a store. She got caught in the store and could not escape, the water came so fast, she was trapped. They found her about 200 yards downstream. Such a sweet young lady too, always smiling and kind to customers.

Old, to answer your question about a go fund me account, no, we don't have one. some other organizations in town do, but I'm not familiar with how that stuff works.

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Jimmy was sorry to here of the Waverly flood. I have a good friend that lives there out of town and he and his family were all spared but his 6 yo grandson went out behind their house when the water receded with his dad and the 6yo found a body washed up on their property. He is having a tough time dealing with it. Not something anyone should have to see but especially a 6 yo.

So sorry a child had to see that, yes, it is haunting to see human beings in such a condition as that baby would have been in.  Again, thank you all. Please keep those folks in your thoughts and prayers.  I appreciate you guys and gals.

Its not been on the news much but I saw one woman reporting on it a house floating by then the feed was cut. I cannot believe the one thing they did report on was the looting and curfew that was going on.

Prayers from Florida.

Robert, yes the looters are out. Seems like they are drawn to disasters like flies to honey.

Old 2 soon,  I've had help setting up a go fund me account now. They,(we) set it up for, "Mama's Table"
I have an accounting system set up to account for and distribute funds as needed to buy food and all the other whatnots to keep helping feed all of the displaced families.  We are also receiving some help from an organization that helps advise and help fund the cost of some of the food.  We are committed to helping for as long as we can.

One member and his wife here have already donated $300 to this cause. God bless him and his kind heart.
If you will, spread this around and get the word out. That is the only way it will be successful. Once again, thank you for all your prayers and care.  I will update as I can.

3fan, old2soon, and everyone else. We have decided to deactivate the GoFundMe account. We talked about it and are afraid some people will take it wrong and say we're doing this to profit ourselves. That is the furthest thing from the truth that could be.
Our member on here that donated $300 did this before GoFundMe was ever considered.   When all this happened, he contacted me and asked how to send money to help us feed people.
I apologize for this and just ask and covet your prayers for the victims.
God bless you all.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.

We will continue doing what we are doing.  We really don't care what this guy and his girlfriend say and plaster on facebook. People see right through them. What we are doing is legit, and as a matter of fact, we are trying to figure out how we can continue doing this long-term for people in our town that are destitute and need a nutritious meal, for free.

God bless ya'll.

Again, thanks for the prayers and thoughts.  Most of the outside volunteer groups have left town, and headed to Louisianna to aid those folks there. We still have the national guard and red cross, but they will soon be gone. Still, a lot of clean-up to do, that will take weeks to do. Many homes to tear down and haul off.  My old house will be torn down soon, a neighbor got us a couple of bricks to remember it by. We are still feeding several people each day but the numbers are starting to go down as folks are beginning to move away or find housing of some sort.

Thank you Oss, and others,  for all your kind words and offers to help. Honestly, I think things are going to work out for us, with time,  of course.

All of our school kids are being sent to other towns, within our county, until we have some school pods,(classrooms), set up in December. those will be set up at the high school, then children will be brought back to our town for the remaining school year. Everything will be at the local high school.  They are saying that the kids will be using these pods for the next two years or so.  Apparently, two new schools will be built in more desirable areas, to avoid the flooding.  If that flood would have happened on Friday while school was in session, there would have been many, many more deaths. Frightening to even think about. Could have been some of my grandchildren!
Again, thank you for all the thoughts and prayers.
