I rode to church today and it was bright sunshine after an earlier rain. Roads had completely dried and it was bright sunshine but it’s raining…Hawaiian Rain. Well, it’s what I call it because it happened frequently when I lived on Maui. Bright sunshine and clear sky overhead but it’s raining. This time ever so slightly but it was rain not mist or dew or anything. The rain is getting blown in from some distance away but it’s somehow falling straight down. There was also the accompanying rainbow. Classic Hawaiian weather. The roads stayed dry and the only thing on the bike needing a wipe down is the shield. I really enjoyed it.

Some folks lead a blessed life.   In my case, it would have been hail.  Wink

the one week or so in Florida I noticed the same thing, very odd rainshowers when bright sun out.  Then a rainbow would appear after the brief but heavy downpour, very odd.  Pop up heavy showers in the full sun around me is very odd, but in Florida sounds like fairly common.

This brings back a memory!

Years (and years) ago I umpired our youth league baseball program. Was the head honcho for the league.

Anyway...

Was a base ump for this particular game. We were aware of some stormy weather in the vicinity.
The weather where we were was sunny and hot. Nary a cloud in the sky above us.

We get word of a tornado warning for a county and a town about 35 miles to our south.
We can see the storm to our south and the cloud tops are really high, but it is 35 miles away.

We're in the middle of an inning, kid on 2nd, and i see a puff of dust in the infield, then another then another, then the rest of the hail came on down. From 35 miles away.

Couldn't believe it.  Dime to nickel size. Had everyone take shelter and it was over soon as the last kid got in the dugout. We resumed play a few moments later.

Oh, and I was born in Hawaii.
