anyone got any green bean recipes let me know. Done blanching beans and 10 qts. in freezer for the year. Pretty much dwindling down picking them just a few more here and there is fine with me. EVERY single year I say plant LESS and LESS but NEVER listen. WE use to though freeze 20+ qt. bags of green beans and end up tossing over 1/2 of them not used every single year. Green bean casserole is good like it as well as mixing green beans and frozen sweet corn we picked last month (14 qt. bags in freezer). Bring on the zombie apocalypse I can toss frozen green beans at them to slow them down.... Actually, my daughter has 2 cats and is pretty amusing seeing both of them play with green beans we set on the floor. They whack at them, pick them up and toss them around keeping them entertained for well over 30 minutes. Now onto picking the potatoes (and beets) well over 1/2 still in the ground but they usually do not rot too much leaving them in the ground until near freezing temps into late October. Good crop of zucchini, tomatoes, beets, cucs, and peppers as well 1st time ever they produced way too much to eat fresh. Earlier bumper crop of strawberries and pea pods. One pepper plant NO JOKE I counted last week had about 18 peppers on it which is insane. We really like the small zucchinis shredded with egg and sweet corn inside on griddle call them zucchini fritters fried dark and crispy. We find that using metal tomato cages around the zucchini and peppers them growing up tall really helps produce a bumper crop. Our 2 of 3 zucchini plants are about 4 ft tall up thru the cages. darn moles/voles still around (holes in ground) have not caught any lately using peanut butter and mouse traps but earlier caught around 12 or so this year. I think they like to nibble on the beets so should start picking them and EAT them never liked beets growing up but my brother got me hooked on them after either pan frying/saute them or leaving whole with skin on wrapped in aluminum foil in the oven for hour or two, and with LOTS of butter and salt on them - LOL

no gophers but I did also catch a ground chipmunk or I think a ground squirrel they call it was different looking than a chipmunk so think ground squirrel since was also bigger than a chipmunk. Next spring might try those solar sonic ground shakers on all 4 corners to see if that gets them AWAY from my garden, simpler and if they work worth it. Somehow I think the 12 I trapped and killed only put a small dent in the population.

Seven banded ground squirrels are often mistaken for chipmunks. They taste the same. Saute green beans in olive oil till just starting to brown. Add diced garlic and onion. Toss in cherry tomatoes until just heated thru.

My green bean recipe. Green beans, and a little butter and salt. (For exotic, add a dash of lemon juice) Come to think of it, same recipe for broccoli, cauliflower. Tomatoes, skip butter, keep salt. I am widely unknown for my culinary skills. My mom used to make a green been casserole with sliced walnuts and mushroom soup and some other stuff. It was pretty good.

You need a potato cannon.
You got the ammo.
Would be fun.
Post videos blasting things with frozen green beans.
This would be awesome.

my Bonnie does like da prez' does
How long can I leave those potatoes in the ground before they start to rot
Just pulled the last of the garlic beds (had about 150 garlics Music, red and white german in all )together to make room for the snap peas beds I put in for fall crop
bush Green beans are still bearing maybe pick 30 or so a day same with cherry tomatoes. The cukes are still bearing as well. I started pole beans every 4 weeks so have 2 beds not even bearing yet.
Collards still good and the brussels sprouts wont be ready for another month or so Just a few butternut squash look like they will make it to a few pounds Heirloom tomatoes have been done for almost a month The paste tomatoes were very early and prolific and made great sauces
Broccoli and cauliflower were a total bust this year as the zucchini

Evan, I'm always amused at reports from our NYC lawyer and farmer. And all with no John Deere or migrant help. Keep up the good (and hard) work. All I can claim is a yard with every kind of weed known to man. I used to fanatically go around killing all weeds and planting grass seed. But living on a corner lot, the weed seed blowing down the streets created a never ending cycle of work. Now, so long as it's green, it stays and gets mowed flat. And I've learned something; in our high heat summers, weeds stay delightfully green, unlike the brown grass. Not a bad looking yard.... from down the street. Now if I could just figure out how to eradicate mushrooms. Wild, exotic and mostly poisonous. The squirrels won't eat them, and either will I. Red and yellow kills the fellow isn't just for snakes.

I have had them dig and put a pile of dirt right next to them and tunnel right by them. I use Wire Tec 1001, mole eliminator trap. Cost 27 bucks made of SS.. Find an active tunnel and put it there. They work very well. There are cheap ones out there do not waste your money get the SS wire tec. Watch there videos some are funny (the people).

like I say just a country lawyer from the Bronx It is named for Mr Bronck a scandanavian fellow It was Bronck's farm https://www.ny1.com/nyc/bronx/news/2015/06/7/what-s-in-a-name--how--the--bronx-got-the--the-I would love nothing more than to have a few flat or hilly acres abutting a stream and good motorcycle riding nearby and of course a flat spot for a pool Actually the area near Ft Ticonderoga and near Clarytown road are both spots I could have fun with as I love the riding and being able to ride 10+ months without the oppressive heat and humidity of the south Wife however is looking at the Asheville area for when I finally call it quits in a few years Jess you could appreciate that when you file a court proceeding it is county of Bronx if you write THE BRONX your papers are rejected even though it is correct Semo I have no idea what a sonic vibrator is but is it possible the gophers get off on it? kind of like the ones some people put in the back seat of their Harleys?

Just like VA is the Commonwealth of Virginia, my county is County of Fairfax. I write Fairfax County on all my tax checks, and they cash them every time. Silk purse, sows ear stuff. Near Asheville might be OK, but I wouldn't want to be inside Asheville city limits. IMHO Too many D's already moved there and they have already been working on their big govt disease too.

Must be something to the wiretec 1001 since near 3x's the price that works much better and am sure easier to set inside the tunnel. Not sure though if some of the dinky moles/voles I have been catching on mouse traps (size of a mouse or tad bigger) would set off the wiretec1001 for vibration in the ground?

Absolutely, the City of Asheville has become like Haight-Asbury in the 60's. There are still many areas outside of the city that are much more normal.
