This is a fairly fast moving depression. Normally with a storm forecasted to be a Cat 4, they close off the south bound lanes and make all lanes north Hurricane Evacuation Routes. They aren't doing that this time, they say they don't have time to make it happen. Not my call, I'm stay'n home and holding down the fort. Filled both vehicles and the tractor (backup generator) up with fuel, have full fuel cans for extended power outages just in case. Done all I can do. Not real worried, maybe I should be but, I worry about the things I can control. Well, I worry about my wife also but, there is no controlling her. Rams

I always heard ' June is too soon and by October its over '.
Hasn't there been a good number of tropical storms and hurricanes already this year ? The caribbean has been hit pretty hard.

Cat 4 now, may get to Cat 5. Guess we'll see. Should make landfall today. Kite flying and sky diving not recommended today. North bound traffic is huge on 59. South bound is almost nothing. Our first tornado warning related to Ida was issued a short time ago. I'm sure there will be many more along with the flash flood warnings. Expecting significant rain, could get interesting. Those that live closer to the coast, NOLA and surrounding area are hopefully prepared. If not, well it's not like we weren't warned. Rams

More than happy to help those of our extended family if I can (should they need it). Just have to see how things work out. Crossed over I 59 this morning taking our granddaughter to work, north bound is still packed and slow moving, south bound NADA. Edited: Reminds me of my youth back on our ranch when we (I) was prepping to get on a new colt, Dad would always says, "Cinch it up tight and hold on but, always be ready to get off." Yeah, those were fun days. Rams

Watching the storm forecast on TV now.
They're predicting 15"-20" of rainfall.
To any of our members here that are in this storms path, If you are not on "high" ground,
Please Evacuate.
The flooding potential for this thing makes Katrina look like a thunderstorm.

I just spoke with my son who lives in Metairie, LA, about 2 miles south of Lake Pontchartrain. They are riding it out, but they have made several improvements to the levies and pump stations since Katrina, but I'm still concerned. Prayers for all living in the storm's path are appreciated.

Just let me know if he wants to head this way. Rams

We are around 90 miles north of New Orleans. The eye will be west of me around 80 as it will pass Baton Rouge. Being on the east side of it is the worst side. We are expecting to lose power for maybe up to 3 weeks. Only God and time will tell. David

Makes having that back up generator is proven to be a good idea. Just don't run out of propane. Mine runs off diesel, everything that runs off diesel and every fuel can I have was filled a few days ago. Rams

NOAA does have the official end of hurricane season as Nov 30. Thats probably because hurricanes do occasionally make landfall during that month. Over the past 150 years 5 hurricanes have made the US coast during Nov. Peak month is Sept.
Ida looks like she is going to be really nasty. Cat 5. I hope everyone takes care.

We’re 30 some miles from the coast but well east of the hurricane force wind track. We’re getting outer bands on and off light wind and moderate to kinda heavy periods of rain. So I decided to do my favorite rainy day thing. Under cover cleaning. I was lazy though.....I didn’t take the tank off this time.

If you need a helping hand, give me a shout. Blowing like crazy and raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock but we're good. Edit: Speaking for myself, it could have been much worse, a lot of wind and rain here but, we're good. Hope everyone is also. Rams

Warlock asked me to post on his situation. I have been in contact with Warlock several times. He has lost power and it appears will be out for 10 to 14 days. But, he has a propane powered generator and says they will be fine. I've offered several times to come over and give him a hand but, he says he's got it covered. That just about covers it. David has helped me several times and I do wish he would allow me to pay him back. Respect has to be earned and I've got a whole bucket full for Warlock. BTW, we don't agree on several things. Rams

cannot imagine without power 5 days let alone 48 days. Generators are a must for sure down there to run bare essentials. I guess living down there you become sort of use to living thru hurricanes? The locals on the news do not seem to upset they lost near everything just another day it seemed like.
Once power gets back up hopefully soon, let's hear some stories/pics of the after affects of the storm. Never been thru much more than 60 mph winds briefly, cannot imagine well over double that. Even 40-50 mph winds can rip some loose vinyl siding off the house. both bad, but at least a tornado is very brief with same mph winds but a hurricane has a double whammy of winds and rain that can last for hours. Only good thing about a hurricane is know they are coming vs. a tornado can be on you no notice ASAP no warning.

I feel for those without power in the heat and humidity. Food/clean water is a major problem.
We went for 8 days without power in Susanville, CA during one winter. Thankfully had a wood burning stove and a rather large snowbank outside our kitchen door. Stove kept the living part of home a balmy 50 degrees and snowbank kept the food nice and cold. Did loose some of the frozen food.

they say up to 30 days without electricity/power, etc. WOW, and here last year the wife was complaining NO HOT water from tankless water heater to take a shower in the morning for 3 days straight until I found luckily somewhat local a fuse/wire that went bad. Cold showers are NO fun though makes you want to not get in there when the cold hits da boyz down below....

After 93 degrees with real feel of 105 it was quite refeshing. Still no power, but got water and internet. They say maybe tomorrow on power. Only time will tell. Patient grasshopper David

Well, it looks like they are making progress restoring power after the storm in NOLA. I've been checking this outage map: https://www.myentergy.com/s/outagemap and for the first time I'm seeing some green areas that were red earlier today. Unfortunately the area my son lives in is still red.

I’m glad everyone seems safe as of now.
I can’t believe how much flooding happened here in NJ and the number of tornadoes that touched down.
Here in our little part of the state, the Jersey Shore, we missed the bad stuff.
