Everyone is OK!!!

We had lots of wind and rain here in Greenburgh.  Lots of debris on the streets and Cheryl said the Sprain was closed so she took Central Ave. all the way down to work this morning.

Sump pump came on last night and with the french drain, we stayed dry and didn't lose power!  When Sandy hit, we were the last in the county to have the power restored (13 days).

But, this morning the air smells fresh and clean.  The sky is a bright blue and the sun feels warm.

We had one or two over in MD.  Lots of rain, no damaging winds.

Woke up this morning to 60's.

Praise the Lord it was actually possible to open all the windows in the house and breath fresh cool air.

I posted this earlier but it disappeared

My sump pump was not plugged in and I had a good wet basement on my return home

5 hrs later it is mostly dry but the carpet remnants and lots of stuff to go in garbage now

I put a sign on the plug lead  DONT UNPLUG ME so that will never happen again

Personally speaking, I wouldn't put carpet in a basement that can get wet.   Your basement, do your thing.  Whether it's a power failure or a pump failure, too many things can go wrong.

take an easy removing those VERY heavy wet carpet chunks rolled up.  Been thru that once 3 inches standing water in basement sump pump failed after heavy rainfall all day long.  NOT fun some 25 years ago but now with all the stuff down in basement would be 5xs worse to cleanup.

Saw pics of flooding in subways in NY,  WOW,  what a mess.

If the sump pump is the only thing plugged into the outlet I would put an lockable outlet cover on it. Most have a spot to put a small/ cheep padlock on them.

Amen. Mom's basement has carpet and I dread spring, when it has gotten soaked every year since we moved in (and probably before for at least some time). One of my first projects when Mom goes to a nursing home will be to strip out all the carpet.
