Uncertainties… I mentioned to my sister-in-law that I’d like to write about something, but I couldn’t think of anything to attempt to describe… She responded that I could always write about her and my brother-in-law… Hmmm, I thought… maybe I should give that a try… Nah, certainly there are lots of good things I could say, but not the sort of thing I’m in the mood to tackle right now… No rides lately, and nothing adventurous at all going on in my life at the moment… and I’ve already ventured into the realm of fantasy with my last post… So, what does that leave? Well, there are always current events, I suppose… My own, that is, I’ll leave more global observations and speculations to the many experts on here… those who have a keen eye for and a solid, firm grasp of geo-politics, economic matters, immigration, vaccinations and all that other jazz filling the airwaves and message boards everywhere. Besides, if I were to venture off down that rabbit hole, Willow might be forced to move my stuff over to the PAM board… a place I’ve never before been nor one I plan to visit… I simply will not allow myself to become a warrior in any of those conflicts. I mentioned my sister & brother-in-law… They are in the process of buying my late landlady’s house (where I am at the moment) from my daughter… They’d recently sold their own house and were already living here temporarily with Tille. The same house we’d had built when we retired back in ‘97, and the place where I’ve had much of my stuff stored the past five years… and the same place I hole up occasionally for brief periods. Some have asked if I’d be keeping this place myself… The short answer is ‘NO’… Several reasons for that, but the most significant one is quite simply that I don’t intend to live in any one place for more than a few days to perhaps a month at one time anywhere. Having a house would require all the expense and care home-ownership entails. Since I don’t want to be right here or anywhere in particular anyway, and since all things including expenses (taxes, utilities, insurance, lawn care to name but a few) would still be there no matter where I might be, it simply didn’t make any sense at all for me to attempt to hold on, even though that was discussed. Besides, this place includes two acres of land, and I absolutely hate yard work! Some may wonder how anyone can live without a fixed home. It is quite a change from what is usual or typical in our society, and one not easily understood at first… even by this natural! I did come to get it in short order, though, and I came to totally embrace, even to love it and prefer it to any other lifestyle! I have been blessed with no fewer than three offers of a place to ‘headquarter’ from… including the same bedroom I’ve used here for the past five years. In time I’ll have to give up what I’ve come to desperately need, but I plan to cross that bridge when I come to it. Heck, I may depart this life before that day comes anyway, so worry would be wasted energy at this point… For now my course is set… Yep, I figure to become mobile again really soon and to resume the much-missed coddiewomple. It is who I am, after all, and all that I aspire to be… a true gypsy. With yet another link to my former life having been suddenly severed, my desire to roam all over out yonder has only increased. I will also require much alone time for some not necessarily long period to sort things out and clear my head. Solo riding is the best venue for that sort of thing that I’ve ever found, so… I think I’ll be binging on that for some time to come… That’s where I’m headed, but that’s not where I am at the moment… Nope, for now I labor on with the arduous task of turning loose most of the vestiges of what was and preparing again for a new life - even freer than the one before but without many of the wonderful aspects of the old… I’ve been donating mounds of old clothes, tossing piles of ancient paper records, and jettisoning countless other unimportant items not used or needed in several years now, and serving no useful purpose at all. Yet another reason for me not to maintain a household… the accumulation of pure junk! I’m finally able to see light at the end of the tunnel… I have a doctor’s appointment on the 10th of this month, so I’ll be riding out next Tuesday or Wednesday headed to Montgomery… whatever the weather seems to dictate. Of course, I may leave even earlier… I have to be here this Saturday because my daughter is coming up and I do want to see her, but after that… I’m antsy enough to pull out at first light Sunday morning! Wonder how all of that will play out…? DDT

“Wonder how all of that will play out…?” I don’t know. But I suspect it will be well played. Isn’t it amazing how much “stuff” we tend to accumulate ? I occasionally kid my Son in Law that I ain’t getting rid of any of my “stuff”. He is going to have to go thru it all. He in turn tells me he will just bulldoze it all. ‘57 Chevy, motorcycles, boat, motorhome and all. I look forward to your meandering ways once again !

Good on you for letting go when it's needed. I hope our paths cross before too much longer, I miss your quiet wisdom, both on line and in person. My dad (As his memory's been fading) sends me this comic every few months, forgetting he'd already sent it to me. ...or maybe he remembers, and it's just a reminder of the Herculean task I'll have before me when he and my mom check out...

Many strive to surround themselves with stuff so they can validate their worldly existence. The stuff takes control and in turn becomes a burden.
I've known one pack rat / hoarder and they are one of the most miserable humans I've known.

Many never come to understand what is truly important in their lives. Once truly seen it automatically separates the needed from the needless and shows a path. That focus and understanding can truly be a wonderful thing.
Bless you on your travels and direction.

I enjoy reading all your posts. The recent fantasy/daydream/dream (not sure which) was fun. I don't seem to have dreams like that. Wouldn't hurt my feelings none if you wanted to just make up some more stuff... whilst waiting on your next real life adventure.

All,
Yeah, accumulated junk is an inescapable part of living in one place... no matter where, for how long, or under what circumstances! Heck, even just living aboard our girl I've discovered that one of the old saws of motorcycling is absolutely spot on! No matter how much or how little space is available, we will fill it in time! I find myself periodically having to perform a version of 'triage' on our girl's cargo... It just seems to be part of our nature, I reckon.
Well, I passed a major milestone today! Yep, my BIL carried off the last of the clothing I was donating and dropped all that off at the Humane Society (my landlady's favorite place for such things), and I tossed the last bit of junk in the garbage! I even finished loading our girl, so now all I have to do is park my tookus on her seat and head out! It's really looking like early Sunday morning! Yep, day after tomorrow I hope to be sharing whatever comes next with my dearly beloved, and... you know... We'll be taking five days to do what could be easily done in two... I'm thinking long cut here! After that... who knows?
I appreciate the comments and shared anecdotes in your replies!!! I'll admit it is true that misery loves company, and obviously I'm not alone with the stuff piling up thing. It's also true that learning to tell the difference between what's wanted, what's needed, and what's truly important is a major discovery in our lives, and it is indeed truly wonderful to be at that point. I'll be traveling 'light' more than at any other time in my life, but I'm not concerned about that... The parting has been accomplished, so it's eyes forward and look out world, we're coming out!!!

The same is true in Southern Mississippi although, I'd recommend fall over the weather now. It's a bit humid out there. Rams

Well, the skill rust wasn't nearly as evident as I'd feared! No close calls and everything went oh so easy! Took backroads all the way... well, except for a couple of four-lane stretches, with no super-slab riding at all... I did go under a couple of underpasses, however.
The last third of the ride, though... well, I obviously haven't been stationary long enough to allow summer to pass! Oh well, it still felt mighty fine, and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Even had some BBQ for lupper!
Hot again tomorrow, and it now appears we'll have plenty of rain to work around, so the ride may be very short after all, and the stay in Montgomery longer than hoped for. Still... all things considered, I'd certainly prefer this to vegging in the recliner and wallowing in remorse! Proud to be back at it!

Bruce, So now begins a new chapter! New things to ponder and a new version of “freedom”. I hope that your willingness to take the rest of us along by way of posting stories and photos does not subside. I look forward to hearing of the adventures as well as the ponderances.
May your travels be light hearted and filled with wonder. May the rain fall around you but not dampen or impede your journey. May you find interesting conversation when wanted and solitude when preferred. Good health to you, the VRCC signature “Travelin’ Man”.
I don’t think any song describes who you are but this one does seem to fit some of your character. Bob Seger travelin man.
