Some of ya'll know already, but my teenager took the MSF course in July, and passed the state test a few days later.  Texas state law allows 15 yr olds to get a full on motorcycle license with the only restriction being engine size (<250cc).  So, the kid has a Sym Wolf Classic 150, and rode it to school on the first day.  Since then, most school days have been riding days.  The kid has put about 200 miles on it since then (that's a whole 2.1 gallons of fuel!) and is loving every minute of it.
The "first day of school" picture is below.

That is awesome!  Good to see your family motorcycle tradition will live on!   cooldude

(My son got his MC endorsement last October and enjoys riding the Shadow (VT1100 Spirit).  He rode it to class at Texas State quite a few times last spring and plans to do it again now that classes have started again.)

Glad the minimum size of the motor is up.  When I was 15, the max was 5 hp.  Which meant 70cc.  I'll bet she is considered the coolest girl on campus!

There's no HP max, it's purely a size thing.  I guess that's easier to enforce.
I took that little thing out for a lot of test riding before turning it over to the kid.  It topped out at 62 mph with me.  The kid can get a couple more mph out of it.  I wonder why?  (:

As for coolest kid on campus?  Yeah, I think so.  There's only one other student rider as far as I know, and that one is a senior, not a sophomore!

My CL70 topped out at 45 mph with the throttle wide open in 4th gear (on the speedo, which probably meant 40).  I think I had it up to 50 once but that was on a really steep hill.  I only rode it 1 year and it was burning a little oil when I sold it (to have enough money to buy my 1st car), probably because I always had it at full throttle.

probably because I always had it at full throttle.

The Ladybug is happy that there's another few mph left in it for most of the routes required.
They're mostly 45-50 mph roads.  That way, it's not at full throttle most of the time and there's a tiny bit of room for passing.

The more I look around, the more I think I got a great deal on this thing.  In the for sale ads, I'm seeing the same model for twice the price, three times the age, and 10 times the mileage.  Very little needed to be done on it (mostly cosmetic/personal preference stuff) and the kid is tickled that it's quickly approaching double the odometer reading from the day we got it.

My how time flies, I can remember when there was one, now she is riding. Many happy miles ahead.
