So is there a plan to do a Leakey or Fredericksburg ride in October this year?

There is not an "official" VRCC ride planned, but an impromptu ride could certainly be possible.

I was out in Leakey last month and rode the Twisted Sisters, well...most of the Twisted Sisters...337 was closed between Vanderpool and Leakey.  Apparently, there was a bridge out.  The scenery was beautiful as usual.

The Harvest Classic Rally in Luckenbach has canceled once again due to the pandemic.  It was slated for October 22nd and 23rd.  Their charity still needs help, so you can still register and receive a rally T-shirt.

I worked in Fredericksburg week before last and put myself and my business partner up in an Air BnB.  I figure that an Air BnB is safer than dealing with hotel lobbies, elevators and such.  Shops and restaurants were open, so we ate really well!  I would assume booking rooms in Fredericksburg would be fairly easy right now.

Got in some really good riding today.   The “Three Twisted Sisters” roads (337, 335, 336) are great roads.    If you have never been down them you are depriving yourself of three great riding roads.   Some of Texas finest.    Three of us booked a small cabin at Banderas “Riverfront Motel”.   Small cabin with nice size shower and bathroom area and the main room has 1 double bed and two single beds.   Clean place with ac that works good, small fridge, small tv, microwave, coffe pot with coffee provided.    We paid $109/night.   With taxes $125/ night.    Cost us a little more than $40 each/ night.   Very economical

We left Utopia after brkfst this morning and drove 187 to Vanderpool and got on 337 headed to Leakey.   We came up on the road or bridge that was out and they had construction going with 1 lane open.  Traffic had to alternate using the one lane via a red light system.

We rode 337 to Campwood then 55 to 335 and rode 335 to Hiway 41.   Decided at that point to not do 336 and rode 41 to I-10 to Kerrvile then 16 to Fredricksburg.   Got on 290 and went to Luckenbach and listened to some good music.   Pretty crowded there on a cool Sat eve.   Plan to run all three twisted sister roads tomorrow.   So 336 may be closed.   However when on Hiway 41 when we passed 336 I dont remember any detour signs.   Will give report on 336 tomorrow.

Unless something has changed in the last few weeks, 336 was fully open from Leakey to 41 when I was there...

335 had some really beautiful scenery (as usual)...

...and 337 between Leakey and Camp Wood sported some unique Hill Country 'art'...

Good to know that they've at least opened one lane on 337 between Vanderpool and Leakey.  The alternate route was to take 187 up to 39 and then down 83 back to Leakey.  Since we were staying near Garner, we (my son and I) headed south on 187 to Utopia and then 1050 over to Garner.

To me, the condition of the Twisted Sisters roads have been pretty sketchy at best the past few years.  Sometimes you have the choice between loose gravel or slick tar on a hairpin turn.  I think they've deteriorated farther due to all the traffic from car clubs, motorcycle clubs, etc. that constantly visit the area.  I would think that the local "leaders" of the area would push to keep the roads in tip top condition seeing how their economy is hugely dependent on all those car clubs and motorcycle clubs.  The other economic engine to the area is hunting which helps keep some of the ranches afloat.

Just finished the 3 sisters this morning.   All is open with one spot on 335 where there is a bridge being worked on and 1 lane is open with red light costruction signals alternating traffic.   Fun roads.

Long riding day today….left Bandera 6:30 am and got on 337 in Medina and we did all three of the twisted sisters…ending up in Leaky.   Took 83 and turned on 39 and went thru Hunt Tx to Ingram then to Sisterdale to San Markus to Bastrop to home.  Me guessing 450-500 miles
