Biker was a dummy. Too fast for the road conditions. Never drop a bike; always brake as long as possible.

Yes! Scanning all the time. You need to see everything.

It still amazes my wife when we ride how much my head is constantly turning and assessing road/traffic conditions.

I think this kid learned a lesson. Trust no one. The only one you can depend on is yourself especially riding solo out on main roads.
