Thought I’d share this because it worked so well. Trying to remove a bad left rear wheel bearing for my Valkyrie.
Ok first of all, I know from experience how frustrating it is to find the right extractor that isint beat up real bad when you rent tools. And even if you are lucky enough to find the right one in good shape it’s still dicey getting that first good bite because the internal spacer is slam up against the bearing.
So the one I had to deal with because it was the only one in town wasn’t even the right kind and due to the flat square tooth area it would not extract the bearing.

So since the dang thing was worn out and stripped. I had nothing to lose so I ground the tooth area to a beveled edge. Wow. It wedged itself in between the spacer and bearing like butter. Pulled that bearing right out easier than any other extractor I’ve ever used. So I bought one (only $15) and modified it too

So now, no more looking for the right extractor if this ever happens again. All you need is a standard slide hammer. Most car parts houses rent them for cheap or free.
I hope this frustrating adventure with a good ending is helpful to someone else.
PS. This is the item. I bought it at OReilly’s Auto Parts
