I forgot to copy the link I was reading about CA backlog and it's partly due to the state govt restrictions placed on the actual type of truck used to enter the ports.

It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which all but prohibits Owner Operators.
Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union).  California has now proposed banning Owner Operators.
Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035.  The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist in large numbers and are constrained by their short range.

Carriers domiciled in California with trucks older than 2011 model, or using engines manufactured before 2010, will need to meet the Board’s new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020 or their vehicles will be blocked from registration with the state’s DMV, the state has said.
The new “health-based requirements” will need to be met before a driver is allowed to register his or her truck through the Department of Motor Vehicles, CARB says. A new enforcement tool used by the DMV beginning in 2020 will automatically block 2010 and older trucks from registration

Good story - CBS news this morning headline story was about the "truck shortage" - with no information about the "why".

So, basically - CA is shooting themselves in the foot to convert to "Green trucks". What idiocy.....

So, basically - CA is shooting themselves in the foot to convert to "Green trucks". What idiocy.....

But they are shooting everyone in the foot, since so much of that ship traffic is intended for the whole country.  If we had an actual federal G (and not the Disney model we now have) they'd step in under the interstate commerce clause they love so much and prevent any CA (looney toon) interference in offloading international shipping for the whole country.

I'd say CA is shooting us all.  My understanding is approximately 60% of all containers come through California.   The sooner parts of CA fall off into the ocean, the better off this country will be.
Yeah, I know.   Just wishful thinking.

          No matter the When of the containers being unloaded those containers WILL be moved by fuel burning contraptions of some sort or another. Even electric vehicles NEED batteries recharged. You WILL NEED to Burn something or use Nuclear power to generate the heat to turn water into steam to spin the turbines. I've been to the ports on both coasts and the southern ports. I was in a N J port when they were-N J DOT-inspecting outbound rigs. Not my 6 month old International but those clapped out oldrr trucks the Owner Operators ran. And this was circa 70s  80s. Sounds to me like Ca. has gone off the deep end with lotsa lead attached to their necks. And meanwhile We The People are sposed ta be happy with this in yet another string of revoltin developements!  Thinkin some/most politicians would Still reject The TRUTH even when being beat senseless with it. BUT politicians being beat senseless ain't much of a beat down!  RIDE SAFE.
