84 is a petty good run for a old war horse.

Actually, it's being reported he died from "complications" of COVID. I agree that 84 is a pretty good run but, I hope to go well past that (although, it's unlikely). Rams

Agreed, that one set me aback a bit but he was not the only American who was buffaloed by Joe's empty campaign promises. Powell was a great Amercan, and I do believe he had America's best interests at heart.

Maybe this will bring attention to the fact that once you're fully vaccinated you're 17% more likely to get covid.

I don’t know about 17 percent. How can anyone know that. But when I discuss the fact that vaccinated people can still get it, I’m told ya but they won’t get really sick and die or have to go to the hospital. I guess we don’t know everything yet

Yes he was a great soldier and leader, it's hard for me to understand how a life long Republican could have endorsed Obama (other than he pulled the race card) and even that surprises me for someone with a military record like Gen Powell. Maybe this will bring attention to the fact that once you're fully vaccinated you're 17% more likely to get covid.

I haven't looked into the probability of COVID and Powell's other health issues. Might or might not be the case. I do know (from reports this morning) he was not in good health and COVID on top of that apparently did him in. Rams

Your statement is not accurate. General Powell had multiple myeloma which compromises the immune system's ability to fight infections. Additionally, people who are immunocompromised, as was General Powell, often do not have a robust response to vaccination. As high as 40% of immunocompromised people develop no antibodies at all after full vaccination.

I have just read that 25% of CLL patients probably won’t develop antibodies from vaccination and 12% of chronic ITP patients have reported lowered platelets and new bleeding symptoms after vaccination. The more I read the less I am leaning toward ever being vaccinated

Clearly, a first black president was probably irresistible to him. But with Mitt Romney and John McCain (RINOs), it's even easier to understand. I liked neither of those guys at all (but more than the winner). But then, I liked anyone in the phone book more than the winner. And lest anyone think that was a racial decision, I actively assisted the first black student body president of my undergraduate university run and get elected in 1972. In fact, I suggested he run. This was the same guy who came seeking my help (as his RA) because a girl in his room had taken all her clothes off and wouldn't leave. What, say that again?

And I never did, until he ran against BHO. (BTW, I didn't necessarily vote for McCain's opponent all those years, I generally wrote in a more suitable name.)

As a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm, technically I served under his command.
I liked him and have always thought that he was a good leader.
I wrote his endorsement of BHO off as him getting soft in his old age.

I would have voted for the General if he would have run for President, but he was too smart to fall for that one.
He was, at his core, a decent, honorable man, who owned his mistakes.

He couldn't have done much worse than our first black (half black actually) president did if he tried. I also said I would vote for him, until he endorsed and voted for BHO.
