As the title asks, does anyone know if driver's backrests are specific for the Valkyrie? Mine is a '98 Tourer or will any backrests off other large cruisers fit our seats?

If you have stock seats you will need a bolt on backrest specifically made for your Valkyrie. If you have a Mustang or Ultimate seat any back rest insert should work from any Mustang or Ultimate. Other may be compatible as well I only know those two.

Corbin driver's backrests (with the square post) are interchangeable between seats with the appropriate receptacle.

Since I have a standard seat I think the way to go is to get an Ultimate backrest. As I was "checking out" on their website I was asked in a drop down menu, if my bike is "1999 or older" or "2000-2003". I appreciate that a different seat came out in 2000 so is the Ultimate bracketry different depending on which seat it is? I ask because I have both seats. At the moment I really am undecided as to which I prefer, so do I need to bite the bullet and order for the specific year or needn't I worry as the hardware is the same for both seats? I have emailed Ultimate but I'm still waiting for a reply, including whether they will ship to the UK. Thanks.

Agree with the Utopia, the main reason is I found the Ultimate backrest flat whereas the Utopia has a slight curve. My back isn't flat!

I think you need the Utopia backrest. The Ultimate backrest is designed for their seats. Yes, my apologies and thank you. It was "Utopia" I meant though I'm still intrigued about the hardware for "pre" and "post" 2000 seats.

They are bad enough as it is (IMHO), I don’t know how anybody can ride more than a couple hundred miles with the old style. One thing I don't like about the newer seat is, as it rises up at the front, it causes my legs to splay out more. At the moment I'm still swapping seats. I'm sure I'll know after a really long ride.

Any seat can be given a nose job (shaving the end at the tank narrower).

Utopia have contacted me to confirm that the backrest bracketry for the 97-99 bikes is the same as for the 2000-03 bikes, which have slightly different seats and are, some say, more comfortable.

The older and newer OE seats have a different buttpatch top, but the same footprint.
