The 97 Tour I recently picked up has the original windshield I Think. Not a fan. Do not like looking through it. I owned a 98 standard for 12 years and did not use a windshield. Got spoiled with the Bagger shield on my F6. I started shopping on the Internet and see there is limited options. I wonder what you guys have replaced the OEM shield with. 21.5 inches is way to tall.

Thanks, Mike. I looked at their shields and they do look good. Unless I'm looking at the wrong thing the shortest I could find was 17". After setting on mine and marking the windshield I was thinking 15".
I have a Baggershield on my F6 and look over it unless it rains or the love bugs get bad and I pop the top shield up. I even thought of trying to turn this old shield on my bike into a Baggershield. I'm going to buy a new one so no loss if I screw up. The hardware for the extension is $20 on their website. I think it would be easy to cut this tall one down and fashion the cut-off section to be the extension when needed. Not sure what it would look like.
Anyway thanks for the info, there are a few others who make custom but very expensive.
And I am a Mike also!!

Picked up an Interstate a few years back. Windshield was way too tall. Marked it, took it off and took it to the glass guy in town. Had him cut it to where I marked it. Kept the same lines as the original top edge.
I know it's not glass but he's got the tools and expertise to get it done right.

I have a ‘98 Tourer. I replaced the OEM shield a few years back, the stock shield was a bit too tall, my line of sight was pretty much at the very top so I went down one size with the Clearview shield.
I did not get the vent but I did get a vent when I used Clearview on my ‘95 Goldwing and it’s a good vent, very well built and functional with very good air flow.
The Clearview shields are also a heavier/thicker material than stock if I remember correctly so it’s a bit more sturdy on the highway.
Good luck

Just got a clearview shield for the bmw bike Higher wider and terrific quality I did not get a vent because the windshield is already electrically adjustable up and down It took a while to produce but worth the wait and price Oss Yeah I know, cant hide money

The windshield on my Tourer was in poor shape when I bought my bike. I really didn’t care for the style of it but looked at all the replacements available anyway. After careful deliberation I went with a National Cycle Switchblade. http://www.nationalcycle.com/switchblade-mt.htmlThey are not cheap but very well made. As a matter of fact they are bullet proof. Check out the YouTube videos and the show handguns and shotguns fired into them and the competition (maybe a helpful feature for those you you in Detroit.) I have one on my VTX1100 and have enjoyed it for about 10 years. I installed it a few weeks ago and it looks and works GREAT. I also like the fact that it removes in seconds ( for those hot summer days when traveling around town) or you can get a shorter one to use when not needing two up protection. I did buy the Two Up model. Very pleased.

You can easily lower the top of the shield with lower bracket extensions to move the bottom up, top down. A couple straps of alumimum with holes drilled about 1 inch on center. Very easy and reversible. Here's my original tech tip on it written 20 years ago. Lots of advantages, listed there. I have modded my shield mounts on Deerslayer (98 std) and Jade (97 Tour) to tip them. This link, it's a Rifle shield. The Honda OEM shield, mod is the same. On Jade, I have increased the mod to include raise & lower & tip it so I can make any of those changes easily on the road. Both of these bikes have Clearview shields with Hondaline hardware. http://horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/Windshield_Tipping/windshield_tipping.html

Thanks, everyone for all the info. I got lots to look at now. I still think I will cut my old one down. It will give me the chance to try 17, and then cut it to 15 to try that!!!!

I did the same which brought the screen down to about 18.5". It could be lower if your homemade bracket is a bit longer but a little bit on the bracket makes a big difference at the top of the screen. One thing I've noticed due to the screen leaning a bit more towards me is that the throttle and brake cables rub a little against the screen on right lock. I've now attached a small rectangle of clear protective tape on the screen to prevent any marks and also wrapped some Velcro tape around the offending part of the cable, soft side outwards. I'm now not looking through the screen.
