Chrome oil filter covers seem to be discontinued.  Mine (IS and tourer)are starting to peel.  Searching I found a thread from some time ago and would like to try these.   https://www.jpcycles.com/product/7000095/j-p-cycles-shock-covers

Any one have an idea where to find them or another chrome cover.

thanks

If you cut the bottom off a beer can it slips on there nicely as well... I've put tons of love and money into customizing my Valks, and get more comments on the empty beer car than I do on anything else I've done to 'em...

I do the same as Serk...have a collection of several that match the bike...Red, Black & Chrome. I leave mine a bit longer and fit an inch and a half or so of Styrofoam in the end for added protection from rocks, etc.

Longrider...I have this one I don't use. You're welcome to have it. Be up to my daughter's in Lake Country in a few weeks I can bring it up with me...or I can mail it to you.

Those shock covers work very well and you either have a spare or can give one to a friend like I did.

Absolutely, 2 for the (very low) price of 1.

They just slip over.  No faster needed.

I've got thousands of miles with them and never lost one.

Ebay (price is up about double what it was).  Very well made, great chrome, and built in clamp (but you just snug it up as it tightens on the filter body).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/163848862360?epid=654703679&hash=item2626273a98:g:QWYAAOSwfZRdcRoQ

You put the open end down in the 6 O'clock position.

If you use the longer oil filters for Valk, it may not cover the last quarter inch (no big deal).

There was a thread a long time ago about using a large salt or sugar zhaker.

If the purpose of a filter cover is to prevent it from getting holed by a rock or other object (up front like it is and in line with the tire, which is known to pitch things back under the bike) (even if the filter has a check valve), then a paper thin beer can might not cut it.

If the purpose is appearance then a can is great.

Admittedly, I can't remember reading about a holed filter on a Valk.

Buy a K&N chrome filter.  Model number KN-303C.  I've used them for years.   They are about $12.

Same here Jess, have never seen rock dents on the underside of the can/filter in the 10+ years I've been using cans for a cover...only on the end the odd time, hence the Styrofoam layer I add. There's a LOT of Valkyrie riders I've seen over the years who ride with unprotected "naked" oil filters. Honda didn't put a cover on them when new. I think the cover is more about esthetics.

If you want to use a beer can or pop can, you can use a buffing wheel to remove the paint very quickly, then use rouge to polish it up nicely. Do this while can is unopened, takes very little time.
I used to do this but now I just use the K&N chrome filter.

if you can live without the nut at the end,  hi-flo HF303C is the same exact thing and a few bucks cheaper than K&N.

I just buy the HF303 without chrome is cheaper yet but if you want chrome is cheapest way to go I think.

I like the whip cream idea though is pretty neat idea next time we use a can of spray whip cream will try it out sliding it over the top of the oil filter

I was looking into this and I found the shaker @ Meijer. It can be polished also.

Glad it's still making miles Bruce.  It gets dirty riding there but usually will clean up and shine again.
