Our major Universities are now warning students against wearing inappropriate Halloween costumes warning that there is danger that some students might be traumatized.  I used to find it unbelievable that someone could be traumatized by a costume until I saw this.

My most memorable Halloween experience was going to a house with a really artful horror theme set up outside the front door.  Lots to look at.  With several full size monsters sitting in chairs and standing by the door.  One was a completely head-to-toe rubber Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954).  When the damn thing stood up, I wasn't the only one who screamed (and maybe peed a little).  The guy in the suit was large and menacing, and reaching.

We all ran off with no candy.  I was traumatized.... the best ever.

When we lived in WY many years ago, the wife two of my daughters left me and the middle kid alone to hand out candy.  I dressed in camo with face mask would let my daughter answer the door when older kids came up.  The room by the door was sort of dark.  I would wait till the kids were getting their candy and suddenly appear behind my daughter.  Armed with a rubber knife, I would grab her with the knife coming down on her  with lots of growling from me.   The trick/treaters would mostly laugh, though several ran off.   One of those who ran off was a girl that lived across the street, she wouldn't come back.  2funny 2funny

I was never allow to hand out candy again.

Oh gosh, about 20 years ago, for Halloween, I got two chaise loungers and set them up on either side of the walk way to our front porch stairs. In one of the loungers I stuffed a pair of pants and shirt with leaves, got a rotisserie motor and spit, carved a pumpkin for the head and had it spin off the motor. It was kinda cool if I do say so.

On the other side of the walk, on the other lounger was me, in overalls, leaves coming out of the sleeves and leggings, and a furry kind of monster mask. Kind of looks like a executioner bear. Pulls over entire head.

Had the bowl of candy under the lounger.

I'd just sit there real still.

Scared the crap out of everyone.

Had one kid not real sure about coming up the walk and his Dad came up to prove it was just a couple fake dummies.

Got close and looked right in my eyes and I say "Trick or Treat" and he must of jumped 3' up in the air and ran right past his kid leaving him there. For a bit. He came back.

I'd dole out the candy. Wonderful night.

Hadn't done it since.

The kicker...

About 3 years ago we get a kid and his dad up on the front porch, no scary stuff, just candy at the door.

The dad was kid from 20 years ago. Said he still remembers that evening and his dad getting the crap scared out of him.

Good times.
