So now that my '98 is fully back up and in production use after Kali's booboo, I've got a bunch of broken parts left over. Hand grips, engine guards, foot pegs, highway pegs, those sort of things.

They're really not repairable without extreme measures, but I'm having a hard time making myself just throw 'em out...

What do ya'll do with such parts? They're taking up room and need to go somewhere, I just have a hard time putting 'em in with the rest of the garbage though...

If they're trashed beynd repair,  send them off to Valhalla.  Or be like me and wonder,  why in the hell am I keeping all this junk around like Sanford and Son?

It'll likely end up in the landfill.  Sooner, or later.

Take them too a recycling center. They probably won't be worth much as scrap but they can be melted down and turned into something else......

I'd mail'em to Hunter Biden and split the proceeds from the art he could create with it.

What I do is pull off any serviceable sub-parts, nuts, bolts, spacers, rubbers, yada, and pitch the rest.

My parts bin has a pile of stuff off Harley, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Honda.

Plus, I've had to buy pairs of things I only needed one of (in repair).

And I've kept all the good OE Valk parts that came off for upgrades which would go with the bikes if I ever sold.  Some I've given away.

But finding something I'm looking for in that big pile of stuff, in 30 little bags (mostly unlabelled) is getting harder.

One and half of these full.

When I went down in 16 the left road peg took the brunt-and my left ankle-of the lay down. And I was able to salvage the road peg with a heli coil kit. And the heli coil kit was MUCH Less expensive than trying to track down 1 road peg or purchase another set. IF it's All scrap recycle it like Mad6Gun mentioned. Unless of course You or Kali have some morbid attraction to the stuff!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

I typically do what Jess mentions here...strip them of what looks like might be useable bits, then I take what's left to recycling. I have dozens of zip lock bags with o-rings,  washers, nuts and bolts, or whatever else looks like it may be useful for whatever, all labeled and stored in a bin. I like having lots of potentially useful bits & pieces around in case I have to "MacGyver " something on my bikes or someone else's,  my boat, trailer,  etc. one day.

At my old place where I had more room, I hung them up from the ceiling. Most notable was a new reproduction radiator for my Chevelle that had a nice circle cut into the fins by the flex fan when my son drove the car off into a ditch. Constant reminders of past mistakes can be beneficial.

Put'em in a box labelled "Parts" and bury it deep within the garage or basement, along with other orphan boxes.

Then, when the wife finds you cold and stiff one day, she'll throw them in the industrial dumpster that will be backed into the drive to haul off all the crap of yours that she'll be throwing out...along with whatever ugly, holey, t-shirts she doesn't like. She'll have a memory and laugh while doing it.  Roll Eyes

Having a recent death of a family member and having to go thru a life time of "stuff".   I can only think/laugh at what our kids would have to do if DW and I would depart tomorrow.  They would would need a rather large trash container.    2funny

If it isn't usable get rid of it.  Not all parts off a Valk are recyclable.

Some of my old broken parts are till attached to my body.

The barnacles, I scrape off the best I can.

The other ones, I leave alone because I've grown used to them.  And you never know, they might come back to life someday.   Grin

Had a member contact me about the broken grips, they want 'em for a project (Can't wait to see what that's all about!)

Most of the rest of the parts are I think steel, and we have several scrappers that trawl our neighborhood before trash day, guess I'll put 'em out there and see if anyone picks 'em up (Especially the engine guard.)

The windshield I did mount on the wall of the garage as sort of a memorial... I, and later Kali, saw much of the country over (Or in her case through) that shield...

Just checked, the scrappers seem to have claimed the crash bar, as well as the broken highway peg arms that I'd taped to it... Glad to know it'll live on in some form!

When the spousal unit had her gallbladder removed for massive stones I asked repeatedly to have the stones, they refused. Kinda ticked me off but they were her stones and she wasn't willing to make a big stink about it so I didn't press too hard.

I take a lot of damaged parts and one of a kind. Someone will need a part of the part. Put up a listing and buyer pays shipping and handling.(you need more to do with one less at the table).

I had a wisdom tooth pulled out in 1984 and the Dentist let me have it
and I still have it in a small bottle. Roll up to 2019 I had another wisdom
tooth removed and when I asked for it the Dentist came unglued telling
me it was a Bio hazard and policy said I could not have it.
Hmm....damn thing had been in my mouth for 55 years but now out in a
jar it might harm me or someone else. I guess stupidity is widespread now.

Ya, I understand. I have a hard time throwing STUFF away. There is usually some kind of use for it even if it takes 30 years to figure out just what that is.
Every time I do try to clean house and throw something away I find myself needing/wanting it for something really really important.

that garage is my mom's upstairs 12x30 ft.  full of stuff up there some 40+ years ago.  Mom has not lived in her house now 4 years and still not gone thru it.  I do not feel like tackling it myself and my brother does not help much either says no time, blah , blah, blah.  At most can get for all of it guessing 2-3K at an auction sale, if that.  Is it worth the 1000's of hours over there to go thru it all or just get a dumpster and toss out the upstairs window into the dumpster.  Even doing that would take dozens of weekends full days.   Everytime I go over there I cringe and start and give up soon after.

I am sorta like my parents though I have kept the old rotors off my 3 vehicles thinking my kid would use them for lifting weights, yet they sit in the basement.  Any good use for old rusted rotors or toss them?  Scrap I guess metal at junkyard might yield a few bucks though for them all.

That Neighbor of mine that passed last year-Gwen-had a storage locker with her Mothers stuff in the locker and some of her accumulated stuff there too. Long story short after all That TIME paying the locker rent ALL of that stuff was mildewed!  Lips Sealed And her Grandson told me stank a lot as they dug further into it. Also the stuff in the out building behind the house turned out to be mostly trash do to dampness and bugs and rodents.
Cookie-hire some kids agree on monetary renumaration hold back half every day and they git the rest when the job is done. They quit before the job done no git rest of their pay. And give them a time line to complete the job. Course THESE days folks makin more sittin on their collective arses then actually goin and WURKIN!  uglystupid2 Good luck there!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.
