My Father-in-Law told me tonight that he wanted to sell his old "garbage" truck.....it's a light blue, 1976 Long bed Chevy truck that had been converted from an automatic to a straight shift before he bought it from a former co-worker of mine about 15 years ago....
The clutch needs to be replaced and one of the tires has dry rotted on the front...he said that he thinks the wrong clutch parts were installed originally and that he'd just put those same parts back when he put the last clutch in it....he said the engine ran like a sewing machine the last time he drove it although it leaks a little oil....the body isn't in very good shape, BUT...it has a $3,000 dump bed insert in it that he bought new about 10 yrs ago....I hauled maybe 4-5 loads of gravel in it and he added wooden side boards to it for hauling trash to the dump....he's been having some eye issues due to complications from diabetes, and can no longer drive.....the truck has been sitting under a 3 car carport with a load of trash in it that has been sitting there for a long time....I don't think any water has been able to get into the bed, so I doubt it's rusted too badly.....even if it is, another sheet of sheet metal could be welded in it I'm sure....
He only wants $200 for the WHOLE thing.....It makes me sick at my stomach to see him sell it for that because the dump bed is still worth a LOT more than that....it just bolts into the bed with 4 large bolts and has a wired remote power cable so you can dump it standing outside the truck.....I would buy it myself, but I don't have a long bed truck(or any truck anymore)....I think it's really made for a 3/4 ton truck, but I don't think the Chevy was but a 1/2 ton truck??....I know I hauled loads of gravel weighing 3,000lbs in it a few times and it worked like a charm....I actually went with him when he bought it new.....I guess it'd be a little bit of a pain to get it towed out from under the carport and the trash off the bed, but heck, you could probably sell the truck at the scrap yard for a few bucks??....
I told him I'd ask some of the guys at work if they would be interested in it, but I thought I'd let some of you guys know about it first.....maybe someone close by might be interested....I don't remember tha actual brand name, but it looks very much like the one in this link.....
