Installing new tires ME888 Marathon Ultra, and polishing the wheels.  Did the front, found the link that refered to YouTube and setting up a drill press to rotate the wheel.  Mine is like that but set up a little differnt.   Decided to remove the tire and spin it from the motor of the drill press.   Bought a 3.5 dia. 1/2" pulley from Tractor Supply, drill out the shaft to 9/16" to fit the drill press motor shaft and bought a 72" x 1/2" lawn tractor belt.   Wet sand the wheel from 180, 320, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, & 2500 and polished with Mothers Mag & Aluminum.   Spent a full day wet sanding, but got most of the milling marks out and I'm satisfied with the results.    Next is the back wheel.

Jim, that wheel is looking great, but the bearing and pocket is not.

Maybe it's just blow-by and fluff from polishing?

Ya, the beariings are good, I purchased new ones and dust seals, it's dirty from polishing.  Not changing bearings, only new dust seals.   Same with the rear, if there still good not changing the bearings.

2000 and later Standards and Tourers came with clear coated wheels and final drives.

Test a spot before trying to sand the wheel since there might be an overlap or use a magnifying glass. My 2000 tourer's wheel was clear coated and I was massively pizzed off after relying on the forum info.

I thought it was only ‘01-‘03 Standards ?

I have a 2001 standard and I thought it had clear coat on it.

You don't want to fool with clear coat unless it has some sort of problem.
