Not often someone brags on an insurance company, but having had to use my policy twice in this past year figured I'd give 'em a mention.

After Kali's mishap on my '98 Valkyrie Standard/Tourer this summer in WV during Inzane, Progressive did NOT total it, gave me $6,800 minus my $500 deductible to repair some mostly cosmetic things on the bike.

And late last month a friend of the family was riding our Silverwing to work when he was rear ended on the local busy crazy tollway. He had on full gear, got to face surf on the asphalt a bit but walked away with just a scrape on his leg after this.

Since we'd paid so little for the bike (Picked it up at an estate auction for $2,600) I wasn't carrying comprehensive insurance on it. However, with the high number of illegals driving around this area, you're a fool to NOT have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, I carry that on EVERYTHING.

This isn't often said, but luckily the guy that hit him did NOT have insurance, so my uninsured/underinsured driver insurance kicked in and Progressive took care of us.

The bike is totaled (Although our friend was able to ride it a few miles to a safe spot to park, somehow.) Bent frame, bent final drive case, snapped rear shock absorber, etc. etc.

So for the bike we bought for $2,600, after deductible Progressive just sent me $3,791.69.

Anyway.... Not a fan of the political contributions the founder of the company makes, but the company itself, I can't complain!

you I bet one of the few.  I winged a deer 4 years ago on my 1 year old tundra about 2500 damage totally driveable could have been much much worse if not swerved to avoid a head on collision, and having Progressive on all 5 cycles and 5 vehicles decided on the auto policy to jack up my rate upon renewal on all 5 vehicles around 14-15%, not just on the tundra.  Is a comprehensive claim and unavoidable and even the progressive insurance adjuster I met at the body shop told me it will NOT go against me NOT raising my rates.  He gave me his card so I called him 3-4 months later when auto rates jacked up with Progressive and told the a-hole to pay my rate increase since he lied to me.

to make matters worse, the body shop who is reputable and heard good things on when truck was fixed called me up to say truck is not done today as they were driving my truck out of one entrance to another some idiot closed the door on top roof of my truck creasing it so in the body shop again for dent removal and new paint job on the roof of my 38K truck.

I bet 99% they would only give me 3-4K for my 98 tourer and 4-5K tops on my 01 valk I/S due to age but hey,  I bet my 2003 suzuki burgmann 650, similar to your silverwing 500,  being a few years newer with only 18K miles on I paid 2K for they would give me 3K for that if totalled.

On older cycles like my kids 84 goldwing Progressive assigns an agreed upon 'cash' value so I put 2K on that if ever totalled even though my kid only paid 1600 for it last year.  Tempted to jack that up to 2500 bucks agreed cash value since doubt it would raise the rates much is pretty cheap on that to insure.

Makes me wonder.... My cars are covered under USAA... However USAA doesn't want to deal with motorcycles, so they contract their coverage for those nasty bikes to Progressive, BACKED by USAA...

...wonder if I'm getting Lexus service from Progressive because I don't have Progressive, I have Progressive, with USAA breathing down their necks?

I think you have pure progressive (though I haven't read the fine print), with no USAA oversight.

That douche CEO of theirs that supported all the communism with big money stepped down years ago (I'm pretty sure), and I haven't read anything about them continuing that support.  But that doesn't mean they aren't.  But you think you'd hear or read something.  In any event, I won't do bidness with them.

When USAA (all my other coverage) punted on bikes, I went with Geico (which used to be the enlisted man's USAA).  And I've never carried more than low liability and uninsured on any bike, even a new one (paid cash).

I have had no claim with any ins co since my old dodge van was stolen off campus in 72-3.

I may have got a new windshield 20 years ago, but I think that was less than my deductible.  I just can't remember.

You may not be cancelled, but I'd watch my rates going forward.  Which is good advice for any company.

good point jess from VA,

Serk,  watch your renewal rates with progressive I bet the rates go up and up next renewal.

They did that with my autos ALL of them just for a small deer comprehensive claim.

I personally think 99% of us are OVER insured, but that is just my opinion.  The ONE time in say 20 years you use it,  the rates go WAY up upon renewal for a trivial small claim.

My annual renewal came up a few months after I got the payout for Kali's booboo... Much to my surprise, my rates went DOWN for the year...

I ain't complaining, maybe I'm just lucky and Progressive thinks my farts smell like roses, but so far they've done me right...

(I'm sure 20+ years with no claims didn't hurt, I'll admit...)

I had the USAA / Progressive deal.

The rates went up at every renewal, they blamed it on where I live.

I left them and went with a company called Rider.

I was happy with them until they sold out to a company that didn't do business in Virginia.

Their refusal to renew my policy caught me off guard and left me scrambling for a new company.

I landed with Dairyland Insurance and so far I'm very happy with the coverage and rates.

well insurance rates going down is something that does not happen, although my Progressive auto insurnace went down 70 bucks every 6 months because my new truck has 'safety sense' BS that according to the insurance industry will help AVOID accidents.    Which after trying this safety sense BS on my new truck,  if 'relied on fully' to keep you out of trouble will CAUSE more accidents 110% guaranteed.    Adaptive cruise control is nice but if you set it to the furthest out following distance in front of you vs. the middle one,  the sensors SLOW you down and BRAKES HARD if someone on an interstate butts in front of you thus will cause MAJOR accidents getting tailgated from the car behind you.    Same thing if someone pulls in front of you  or slows down to turn in front of you, with furthest out following distance set,  the truck brakes VERY FAST and HARD and if anyone is behind you, you will get your rear bumper smashed in from car following you.

I'm in good hands with Allstate. Was paying $230 per year full coverage for both the Valk and Vulcan with RSA. Was with Progressive but they really jacked my rates after a speeding ticket in the car. Waited after my "penalty" period and the rates never went down that much afterwards. I believe I'm paying $190 now on the Valk only.

seems pretty high 190 full year coverage on one Valkyrie.  Progressive has me around 90 per year full coverage and some other cycles/scooters all in that 70-90 per year range.  One thing with Progressive thru the years is the MORE cycles you have, the lower the overall rates are per cycle.  At one time I had 6 cycles for both my kid and me and the 6th cycle only raised my yearly premium like 30 bucks is all per year from 5 to 6.  It was an older 80' 90's cycle only worth 1500-2K tops but our Valks are not pricey anyways at 4-6K or so worth.  I bet a newer goldwing or basically any newer cycle made in the past 10 years would be easily double the cost of our old 20 year old Valkyries.
